Class of 2017 epitomizes a decade of educational excellence for Limkokwing Botswana
6 October 2017 will be a date to remember for 950 students who received their scrolls at the Limkokwing Botswana graduation ceremony in Gaborone.
The list of dignitaries and notable guests at the ceremony were headed by the Vice President of Botswana, Honourable Mokgweetsi E.k Masisi; Founder and President of Limkokwing University, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Lim Kok Wing; and the Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Honourable Dr. Alfred Madigela.
The graduation ceremony was particularly special as it was held in conjunction with the University’s 10th year anniversary in Botswana.
Speaking at the ceremony, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Lim said since establishing Limkokwing in Botswana, the University has been at the forefront in applied creativity and digital technology.
“Today, 10 years later we have graduated some 14,000 young people who are today the most accomplished in their chosen fields, not only in this country but anywhere in Africa.”
He further acknowledged that in the next 10 years, the University will increase the speed of societal transformation and economic innovation.
The Vice President of Botswana, Honourable Masisi said, “I am consciously aware that the University is a unique and hugely successfully global institution which, while being unconventional, nevertheless adheres to high quality assurance standards and offers a portfolio of courses directly relevant to the economies of developing countries such as Botswana.”
Media Scholarship beneficiary Tshepho Maphanyane, who graduated with a BA (HONS) in Broadcasting and Journalism, shared how she had benefited from studying at the University, touching in particular on how the institution grooms students to be opportunity creators rather than job seekers.
Reflecting on her memories at the University, she said, “My time at Limkokwing exposed me to opportunities I would have thought near impossible 3 years ago. It was during my time at Limkokwing and the encouragement I received, to be accorded Brand Ambassadorship for some of my proudest work, including emceeing at his Excellency the President of the Republic of Botswana, Lieutenant General Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s Limkokwing Botswana campus visit.”
Of the 950 graduates, 45 students were singled out for their outstanding performance in various areas of their studies.
Mohlomi Tlali, who graduated with an Associate Degree in Journalism and Media, extended his gratitude to Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Lim for having transformed the way students view the world. Tlali who is visually impaired, said despite his disability,he defied the odds and learned to read Braille, and was on equal footing with the rest of the student body.
