At only 28 years old, our Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) and MBA graduate Waad Almarhoon is working as an Economics Studies Specialist for Bahrain’s Ministry of Finance and National Economy.

The Ministry’s vision is to achieve optimal financial stability in order to make The Kingdom of Bahrain the center of excellence in planning, management and financial control and contribute to the sustainability of national resources through the development and follow-up of leading financial policies. In conjunction with other ministries and public entities the ministry prepares the state general budget that is in line and reflect economic objectives of the Kingdom particularly regarding improving living standards and increasing levels of economic growth.

Waad’s started pursuing her passion when she became a student ambassador during her studies.

“Representing my country in many aspects has widened my vision of where Bahrain stands worldwide and encouraged me to be part of the governmental cycle by performing my duties to improve citizens living standards and increase the economic growth.”

Not only attaining her degrees (Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) and MBA) at Limkokwing University had an influence on her studies but she also acknowledges having to gain exposure by studying with various nationalities from around the world.

Currently Waad is looking forward to being part of a team that will ensure and follow through on initiatives set to help Bahrain achieve its 2030 economic vision.

“Bahrain has recently launched an Economic Recovery Plan which is in line with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030 and aims to support the country’s post-Covid recovery and economic diversification, as well as to enhance the Kingdom’s long-term international competitiveness. Very excited to be part of a team following up on announced initiatives to guarantee the achievement of the plan.”

In addition to completing her masters with honours, Waad’s proudest achievements include, winning the audience award at pitch@palace Bahrain for Onegcc company, being a Member of Tenders Evaluation Committee, as well as being a certified Vice President of Malaysian Universities to mention a few.

Hinting on challenges brought by the pandemic Waad said, “The pandemic for sure had a massive impact on the worldwide economy, as working in the economic sector in Bahrain, the challenges were mainly on how to overcome the decline in economy and to promote economic rights to support the citizens. As the Ministry of Finance and National Economy, we allocated an economic stimulus package worth BD4.3 billion in support of citizens and the private sector, to spare all citizens and residents from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Giving advice to students who are looking to pursue the same path as yours she said, “Your degree specialisation is not your only way to a career pathway. You can study something and work in something else and actually do it better. Keep your options always open and explore as much as you can. You’ll be amazed at the things you can do.”
