Student athletes reap rewards of hard work

Limkokwing University of Creative Technology’s student athletes enjoyed a successful outing at the International Student Sports Carnival (ISSC) 2012.

The University won a total of three gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal throughout the three-day event.

In the final medal standings, Limkokwing University ranked second out of a total of 24 participating private and public universities from across the country. Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) emerged as the champions.

ISSC 2012 was jointly organised by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) in cooperation with Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) and held at the latter’s Putrajaya campus from 21-23 September 2012.

Gold Winners

The University won gold medals for 3-on-3 basketball (both men’s and women’s) and indoor rowing (men’s doubles).

Members of the men’s 3-on-3 basketball team are Katusume Kaihura, Bachelor of Business (Hons) in International Business, Uganda; Ibrahima Cisse, Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Business Information Technology, Guinea; Foo Yong Hau, Bachelor of Applied Science (Architectural Science), Malaysia; Frazer Isaac, Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Information Technology, Nigeria; and Okechukwu Nwoba, MBA in Project Management, Nigeria.

Indoor rowers in rapt concentration.

The women’s 3-on-3 basketball team comprises of Liew Yen Fong, Diploma in Fashion & Retail Design, Malaysia; Violiniwaty Nurmatias, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Games Art Development, Indonesia; Enkhzul Ganbold, Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Marketing, Mongolia; and Fatemehsadat Aghamiri, Bachelor of Business (Hons) in International Business, Iran.

The two members of the indoor rowing men’s doubles team are Alireza Ali Zangeneh and Majid Bahiraei. Both are Iranians currently pursuing their Bachelor of Arts in Interior Architecture.

Silver Winners

The University’s indoor rowing women’s contingent did themselves proud with silver medals in the singles, doubles and relay exercises. Ida Wong Poh Yii from China, currently pursuing her Professional Diploma in Hair Design, was the University’s representative in the women’s singles event. Tan Jie and Wang Yulao, both also from China, were the representatives in the women’s doubles event. Both are enrolled in the Bachelor of Design (Hons) in Professional Design (Visual Communication) programme.

Members of the seven-person women’s indoor rowing relay team are Wong Poh Ching, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Animation, Malaysia; Faith Tshiamelo, Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication, Botswana; Xu Zi Han and Mu Ling, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Industrial Design, China; as well as the three silver medalists of the women’s singles and doubles event.

Bronze Winners

The University’s netball team won bronze with the following members: Nada Abdulqader Omar Bakir, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Creative Multimedia, Yemen; Olyvia Suwanto, Bachelor of Arts (Design), Indonesia; Syajaratuddur Aman, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Professional Design (Visual Communication), Malaysia; Sakina Gulamuali Hussein Taki, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Broadcasting & Journalism, Kenya; Irene Goodwill, MBA in Project Management, Botswana; Anne Jennifer Emmanuel, Bachelor of Business (Hons) in International Business, Sri Lanka; Aisath Nadheema, MBA in Leisure & Tourism Management, Maldives; Shahma Abdul Rahman, MBA in General Management, Maldives; and Nur Syafika, Diploma in Broadcasting (Radio & TV), Malaysia.
