The launch was attended by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police Malaysia, Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Mohd Zinin; Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) Director, Datuk Wira Syed Ismail Syed Azizan; Limkokwing University Founder and President, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Lim Kok Wing; Limkokwing University Senior Vice President, Datuk Raja Aznil Raja Hashim; Limkokwing University Vice President and CEO of Centre for Content Creation, Datuk Timothy Lim Kok Wing Jr; police officers and members of the media.

“The launch is the result of cooperation in crime prevention efforts through the MoU between the Commercial Crimes Investigation Department (CCID) and Limkokwing University that was signed on August 28, 2013 previously,” said Deputy Inspector-General of Police Malaysia, Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Mohd Zinin during the campaign launch at The Curve shopping centre.

The increased usage of computers and smart phones have become a way of life and thus can expose users to cyber crime. According to Sophos Security Threat Report 2013 from the USA in the first three months of this year, Malaysia was ranked 6th in the world for high-risk exposure to the threat of cyber crime.

Based on the investigation and study of the CCID PDRM, the two main factors for the increase in fraud cases of cyber crime in the country are negligence and the lack of consumer awareness of the technology.

“The police system is not being able to move alone in fighting against cyber crime. Thus, the ‘strategic partnership’ with agencies or institutions, including Limkokwing University as a pioneer in achieving this objective is much needed and welcomed,” added Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri.

“I hope that this campaign will achieve the goal of making Malaysia free of commercial crime, especially cyber crime. This cooperation will not stop here, but will still be going on in other projects too, which will be of benefits and interest to the police, the community and our beloved country,” ended Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri in his speech.

The ‘Be Smart: Don’t Be A Victim of Cybercrime’ awareness campaign will ensure the community is more aware and cautious of cyber crime criminals.
