According to the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), demands for sustainable energy, fresh water, clean air, and safe waste disposal are driving infrastructure development on a global scale. Addressing these challenges requires interdisciplinary knowledge and integrating technology, data, science, and policy.
Russian born Obaida Al Melkhim knew what he had to do in order to achieve that; he applied for Limkokwing University’s Bachelor of Civil Engineering with Honours programme. Through the programme, Obaida explored the design, construction, and maintenance of the built environment, including infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, dams, sewerage systems, pipelines, and railways.
The programme is highly technical and designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed to support the delivery of construction projects while championing the importance of preserving our natural environment. “This has helped me in understanding my responsibilities towards my profession and gave me the ability to showcase my skill on a larger scale.”
As the Project Engineer of Diamond Developers, Dubai, Obaida works on site supervision, inspections and monitors all site progress. He also ensures that all tasks are executed as per the design drawings, specifications and within the approved timeframe following all authorities regulations and standard measures.
Diamond Developers design and implement master plans to build and maintain sustainable, evidence-driven and intelligent, live-work-and-thrive cities. The company’s vision is to become a regional leader in offering practical sustainable living solutions and to inspire people to lead healthy lifestyles.
“As a project engineer, I have contributed to the global environment and as a company, we keep a green footprint around the globe by spreading awareness regarding sustainability in general and ensuring that our construction work has the least harm to the environment.”
“The SEE Institute project located at the Sustainable city of Dubai has a very special place in my heart. During the construction phase, we faced many challenges that taught me a lot and I give this project all the credit to the person I am right now professionally.”
Obaida finds fulfilment in being part of a company that strives to make the world a better place. “I would like people to know that each and every one of you is capable of making a change, so let’s put our hands together in making this planet a better place.”
