The Lady Behind Marketing Successes
Written by Catalina Rembuyan
Enterprising and intelligent, the Marketing Director of Everquest Sdn Bhd, Chuah Jay Mee, is a force to be reckoned with. In her previous job, she was behind the marketing successes of various renowned sports and fashion brands. This Limkokwing University of Creative Technology alumna took another brave step forward by running a modest company on her own. Catalina Rembuyan tells her story.
After graduating with a Diploma in Multimedia, Advertising and Broadcasting from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (then known as Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology), Chuah Jay Mee had the privilege of studying Communication Studies at Auckland University of Technology.
Starting this company means facing more challenges, and I am prepared for a tough time in an industry known to be competitive and challenging. Despite the challenges I am certain that it will be equally rewarding.
Today, she is the Marketing Director of Everquest Sdn Bhd and specializes in advertising and promotions, brand management, event management, model and talent management, management training and consultancy, and public relations.
For the well-groomed and well-poised young lady, there is a pleasant contrast between her graceful appearance and the responsibilities in her new venture.
Jay Mee portrayed her meticulous personality with articulate thoughts as she recalled her fulfilling years at Limkokwing University. “The highly competitive environment has taught me to think outside the box in coming up with creative ideas,” she said.
“My years as a student also taught me the importance of being presentable in order to win the approval of others,” she added.
The practical projects that she went through such as graphic designing, producing multimedia trailers, designing websites and developing points of purchases display served as a perfect training ground for her current profession. Among the subjects that she took up were Buyer Behaviour, Human Communication, Advertising Creativity, Writing for Electronic Media, and Media, Culture and Society.
Each of the subjects that she undertook provided her with the necessary training for her career. “I am always required to suggest inspiring strategies and to tackle each task with different approaches,” she said, explaining that in her current line of work, she needs to come up with appealing ideas that cater to the clients’ requirements.
As a rookie entrepreneur, Jay Mee has been combining her knowledge and previous experience from several organizations to rise to the challenges. Starting her company during the middle of an economic recession was also a calculated risk, but she states that her experience had been surprisingly good.
“Starting this company means facing more challenges, and I am prepared for a tough time in an industry known to be competitive and challenging. Despite the challenges I am certain that it will be equally rewarding.”
“It has been a smooth ride out there and I have been dealing with supportive clients,” she said, adding that she has to be outgoing and persuasive to deliver the unexpected.
Over the years, I had to think on my feet to juggle the workload and devote attention to different brands aiming at achieving specific targets.
She has clearly earned the trust of her clients with her reputation overseeing the success of notable brands, namely Ipanema, Ted Baker, Zara, Bebe, Massimo Dutti, Women’s Secret, Mizuno Golf, to name a few.
“Over the years, I had to think on my feet to juggle the workload and devote attention to different brands aiming at achieving specific targets,” explained Jay Mee on her job scope then. This experience has proven to be immensely helpful in her current undertaking at Everquest Sdn. Bhd., where she is expanding her client base to other industries, including liquor, hoteling and real estate.
As one who recognizes the value of multi-tasking, Jay Mee also balances her time between work and leisure. She spends her free time kicking back and relaxing by reading magazines, going shopping, or travelling.
On top of her focus on her career and finding time for leisure, Jay Mee has also developed the compassion to contribute to society through community-based initiatives.
“During my tenure with my previous company, I have implemented one charity campaign each for Shelter Home and the World Wildlife Foundation,” she said.
We concluded our interview with Jay Mee by asking her for her personal definitions of success and failure. When asked about her personal definition of failure, Jay Mee takes some time to define the dismal word.
“Failure is a setback and nothing else. It is something that I will attempt to avoid in order to keep myself from hitting rock bottom,” she explained.
When asked about her personal definition of success, Jay Mee replies that success is what happens when one gains appreciation for a job well done with passion. Judging from the effort that she pours into her professional life, Jay Mee has certainly been a good role model for the definition as she constantly strives to excel and does so with passion.
