Amber Chia

Model, Limkokwing International Lifestyle Ambassador, 2013

I am impressed with the innovative design and vibrant colours of the campus. It is so convenient here because everything is within reach while everyone is so friendly. I feel I want to study here.

Amber Chia, is an Asian Supermodel. She was born on December 14, 1981 in Ipoh, Malaysia, but grew up in Tawau in Sabah. She began her modeling career at 17, after being discovered in Kuala Lumpur, where she was working as an accountant.

Chia gained international fame after winning the 2004 Guess Watches Timeless Beauty Contest, which was a global model search for Guess Watch’s brand ambassador worldwide.

The win also meant that Chia became the first Asian model ever to win a top global professional modelling contest.

Chia was subsequently voted Model of the Year by the Malaysian International Fashion Awards (MIFA) in 2004 and 2005. She is also the creator of Malaysia’s first modeling reality competition “I Wanna Be A Model”.

A number of well-known companies have used Chia in their advertisements, including Sony, L’oreal, and Mitsubishi.

Chia has graduated to being a well-known actress with successes in Chinese productions and serials such as The 3rd Generation, Possessed, and Trio & a Bed. Chia is now also a well-known actress in Taiwan and China, appearing regularly in TV host shows and sitcoms. She also starred as co-lead in a CCTV production, currently in post-production and will be broadcast China-wide in 2008.

Amber Chia is currently managed internationally by Looque Models of Singapore.

Chia also visited the inspiring, trendsetting Limkokwing campus with Joseph Chow, a top model in his own right in January of 2005.

I am impressed with the innovative design and vibrant colours of the campus. It is so convenient here because everything is within reach while everyone is so friendly. I feel I want to study here.

During their visit, Chia and Chow, who were accompanied by MIFA managing director Syeba Yip, received a mock cheque for RM5,000 each from the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.

Limkokwing had sponsored the cash prizes in support of MIFA’s drive to promote the local fashion industry.

Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Lim Kok Wing, president of the university said the university was pleased to work with MIFA and to sign an MOU which further cemented their ties.

“I have no doubt this is the beginning of active collaborations between us to train young people for the industry and in the process, promote the country as a fashion centre.” said Tan Sri Dato’ Lim Kok Wing.

Chia also toured the various business units at Malaysia Design & Innovation Centre, the professional arm of Limkokwing located within campus. Among others, they got to check out Centrefold, the fashion retail store run by Limkokwing’s Fashion & Retail Design School, and Making Headlines, a hair salon that is a collaboration between Limkokwing and international hair specialist Wella.

These business units, part of the Limkokwing concept of fusing university education with industry, allows students to learn to create and manage products and services on campus. They help make the Limkokwing learning experience a unique one.

In the case of Centrefold, it marks the first time a university is running its own fashion retail outlet, producing and retailing clothes. Centrefold is run by Limkokwing’s Fashion & Retail Design School, the largest of its kind in the country. Since its inception four years ago, it has made quite an impact by often winning awards in big-scale events, confirming the ability and talent of Limkokwing students.

“I am impressed with the innovative design and vibrant colours of the campus. It is so convenient here because everything is within reach while everyone is so friendly. I feel I want to study here,” Chia had said during the visit.
