"Success is doing a job one is passionate about. It’s not about the glamour, the position or how much money you make. When you love what you’re doing, you will automatically give your all. Passion is what keeps people going in the long run, not money."

Theresia Clara: Distinguished Editorial Content Writer

Theresia Clara, alumna of Limkokwing University in Bachelor of Design (Hons) in Professional Design (Visual Communication), graduate of class 2013 is climbing up the corporate ladder as an editorial content writer in iPrice Group Sdn. Bhd; the only e-commerce company in Southeast Asia with a price comparison feature.

It was right after graduation when Theresia discovered that she loves writing more than designing and so she decided to become a writer.

She currently writes for the Indonesia segment of the company. “Every day I write articles about products, brands and sometimes I even translate. I also write articles on various topics that will be published online.”

“iPrice reminds me of my days in Limkokwing; it’s multicultural. At first, what attracted me to work in iPrice was their web design. I love the clean layout, the colourful and cartoonish style; it’s easy and pleasing on the eyes. Then, I learned that the bosses and colleagues come from different countries. Plus, they had a position that I am passionate about, so voila! Here I am working with them!”

Before landing her job at iPrice, Theresia Clara said she was struggling to find what she really wanted to do in life. “I had some working experience but I felt like something was missing. I started to question my own capabilities and felt depressed. My friends were doing well in big companies but I was stuck in a rut. So I packed a bag and started travelling to really seek out what I’m passionate about.”

When asked what skills she learned at Limkokwing University Theresia mentioned two; persistence and human relations.

“Studying in Limkokwing has prepared me to embrace differences between nationalities and sway with it. I feel comfortable interacting with my bosses and colleagues even though they are of different nationalities. I learned persistence in doing my best to finish assignments and therefore consistency in my performance at work.”

“I think it is important in today’s global era for people to be able to interact with one another smoothly, especially when it comes to work,” she concluded.

On what motivates her on a day to day basis as a writer, she replied it is when an article that she published gets lots of ‘likes’ and is shared by many people. “My future goal is to write a high quality article that will be published on famous websites like The Times or Huffington Post.”

Theresia shed light on what it takes to survive in her line work, a big part of it being able to understand SEO well and keep up with news around the world.

“To be able to write an article that engages the reader takes more than just remarkable SEO knowledge but the writer needs to know how to ‘package’ the article in a light and fun way correlated with facts or what’s trending in the world now.”

I had some working experience but I felt like something was missing. I started to question my own capabilities and felt depressed. My friends were doing well in big companies but I was stuck in a rut.

She recounted how her years studying in Limkokwing University have shaped her mentally.

“I love the fact that the university offers international exposure and experience, as there are so many students from around the world! When I was in Indonesia, I didn’t have any friends from other countries so I’m happy to have friends from Malaysia, Russia, Sudan, London, Korea and many more.”

Not only did she have the opportunity to learn a bit of their languages but she also got to taste various traditional foods.

“Thanks to the campus canteen and the annual cultural festival! This really shaped my personality as I became gregarious and am now able to talk to anyone from any nationality without fear or feeling shy. The international exposure had also awoken the wanderlust in me. After I graduated and started working, I always try to find a chance to travel.”

During her studies at Limkokwing University, Theresia acknowledged she also had the opportunity hone her skills as a writer.

“I worked at Wings Radio as a news producer. I produced scripts for ‘Good Morning Limkokwing’ It was a show where people can learn to speak Malay in a fun way. I really enjoyed studying in Limkokwing. To me, Limkokwing is where the world is!”

On advising students who are looking to pursue a career similar as to hers she said, “If any of you are interested in becoming a writer in an e-commerce industry, be cheerful! Be gregarious. Keep yourself updated with recent news and set a goal on how many articles you want to write in a day to be on track. Also, don’t forget to exercise regularly to stretch those muscles after long hours of sitting in front of the laptop. And finally, get enough sleep!”

To Theresia, success is doing a job one is passionate about. “It’s not about the glamour, the position or how much money you make. When you love what you’re doing, you will automatically give your all. Passion is what keeps people going in the long run, not money.”
