Limkokwing University hosted the Transformational Leadership in capacity Building: Social Development Officers Conference workshop for 276 FELDA officers on 30 Aug.

The full day conference workshop aimed to provide tertiary educational opportunities to students from FELDA settlements.

FELDA (Federal Land Development Authority) is a Malaysian government agency that specialises in establishing resettlement programmes into newly redeveloped areas and organising smallholder farm businesses.

The workshop provided educational information and insights for FELDA school leavers from rural settlements in Malaysia. This enabled officers to establish communal relations with FELDA students and encourage youths to pursue tertiary education at Limkokwing University.

FELDA Officers and Limkokwing representatives worked to help identify key strategies to encourage rural youths to further their studies. These key strategies include establishing communication, identifying issues and bridging information gaps.

Limkokwing University aims to foster multicultural experience and create a global learning environment for FELDA students.

“This workshop gave us new insights about the University’s multicultural learning approach,” said Rohani binti Jusoh, FELDA Assistant Community Development Officer. “Students from FELDA will be able to benefit from the multicultural exposure and networking with international students.”

She also added that the exposure would enable students from rural settlements to gain global exposure while studying with students from other countries at Limkokwing University.

FELDA Assistant Director of Education Department Siti Zaroha binti Nasharuddin added that the workshop provides FELDA officers with greater opportunities to promote higher education.

“We were able to see the how facilities and classes are conducted,” she said. “I hope that this exposure would benefit students from rural communities to pursue international education.”

“I hope that more youths could benefit through this conference,” said Limkokwing University alumni student Muhammad Shahrul Ridwan bin Saedun who is now a FELDA Administrative Officer. “This will mean a lot to school leavers will have a chance to pursue a career in the creative industry.”

Limkokwing University provides multicultural learning experience with global networking opportunities. This enables graduates with international exposure and cultural awareness to compete in a worldwide field.
