Malaysia Footwear Manufacturers Association (MFMA) President Ms. Rachel Foo visited Limkokwing University's flagship campus on 18 January 2019.
She was accompanied by MFMA’s Secretary General David Ng, Committee Member Ms. Wong Foong Leng and Chief Operating Officer Ms. Maggie Chan.
The purpose of the visit was to discuss a collaboration to elevate the design, branding and export of Malaysian footwear products to the world.
Upon arrival on campus the guests received a warm red carpet welcome and were brought on a campus tour to Limkokwing Fashion Club and Headlines Lifestyle Design Salon which reflect Limkokwing’s industry-within-University concept and serve as a training ground for fashion students.
During the visit, the University’s Vice President Brand, Creativity and Talent Development Dato’ Tiffanee Marie Lim said, “Limkokwing is the only University which offers the highest fashion certification in Malaysia and MFMA is the best association to work with because their members manufacture various brands that are popular in the market.”
For Ms. Rachel collaborating with Limkokwing could bring together a large number of junior designers into the market.
“It is not easy to succeed in the fashion industry because of tough competition and as a brand owner it’s very difficult to look for designers. But from all students we hired, Limkokwing’s fashion students are the most creative ones,” she concluded.
The MFMA was established in 1978 and was formed to look after the interests of footwear-related manufacturers. Currently, MFMA has 500 members where most of the membership includes manufacturers of footwear, components, accessories and other supporting industries involved in the trading, distribution and sales of footwear through associate membership.
