3 November 2015
61 international students from Limkokwing University took part in the charity Malaysians United Run 2015 event held at Padang Merbok on Sunday 1 November.
The students, together with 17 Limkokwing University staff, covered a distance of 4 kilometres in the charity run. The Limkokwing group joined thousands of Malaysian from all walk of life in celebrating unity in the country, which included celebrities and leaders such as Aaron Aziz, CIMB chairman Dato’ Seri Nazir Razak, Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron and Minister of Defence Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
Organised by Institut Onn Ja’afar, the run was held to celebrate the Institute’s first anniversary and to promote unity and nationalism among Malaysians.
The run was also a charity event, held to help raise funds for the underprivileged kids at Good Samaritan Homes, Rumah Solehah, Pure Life Society, Yayasan Chow Kit and Bahagian Pembangunan Kemajuan Modal Insan & Kebajikan Orang Asli.
One of the students taking part in the run was Mohammed Abed Saeed from Yemen. Currently in his first semester in his Bachelor of Arts in Interior Architecture course, Mohammed Abed is an avid runner.
“It was an amazing experience. I joined this charity run as a preparation for my upcoming marathons. Although it was not as competitive, I was glad I could contribute to the community in whatever way I can.”
Joining this charity run is one of the ways that Limkokwing’s international students are exposed to the unique culture of Malaysia. The University believes that it is important for students to become familiar with different culture and people from different background as this would enable them to have a greater understanding of different perspectives in life.
