Limkokwing University’s Vice President for Brand Creativity and Talent Development Dato’ Tiffanee Marie Lim, together with representatives from the Faculty of Fashion and Lifestyle Creativity, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Chengdu Textile College in China on 17 June 2016.
The official visit was arranged as part of the textile college’s invitation to its graduate fashion show, Fashion Summer of Chengdu Textile College. Located in the Sichuan Province, Southwest of China, the college was founded in 1939 and has been the only college for textile operation and education in the western part of China.
Professor Xia Ping, the President of Chengdu Textile College, was keen to explore new collaboration opportunities with Limkokwing University.
“We are impressed with Limkokwing University’s efforts to create a global partnership of youth to build a better world,” he said.
“The collaboration will not only allow the exchange of knowledge and skills but will also expose students to new cultures and technologies in Malaysia and China.”
The Limkokwing representatives were then brought on a tour around the campus by Ms. Zhang Xiaoqian, Director of International Affairs Office, and Ms. Liao Xuemei, Vice Dean of Apparel School.
Students at the college are encouraged to stay close to their roots despite being exposed to the latest technologies and lifestyle. Elements of Chinese culture can be spotted even in the most modern and world-class designs in the fashion showcase galleries around the campus.
Various cultural exchange activities such as calligraphy lessons, folk dance performance from the Han Dynasty, and tea-serving competition were organised by the students as an introduction to their culture and traditions.
The visit ended with an interactive question and answer session with Dato’ Tiffanee and the Limkokwing representatives. The Chengdu students were enthusiastic to find out about Limkokwing University’s multicultural ecosystem that brings together over 165 nations around the world under one roof of creative education.
