Felda will provide half of the higher education funding for university students from Felda settlements and the other 50 percent will be funded through PTPTN, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He said this is part of the decision by Felda to spread the wealth created by its robust business performance and tne succesful listing of Felda Global Ventures Holding.
He said RM15 million will be allocated for the fund this year and RM30 million for next year.
Najib said Felda will also extend its skills training programmes to students who are not from Felda settlements.
“It will start by admitting 2,000 students into the skills training programmes that will value and enable them to get better jobs.
“The Limkokwing university is among the institutions identified to provide training under the scheme,” he said. Najib was speaking after attending the Setiu parliamentary constituency Aidilfitri gathering at Kampung Tasik Tok Lebai here this morning.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, Setiu member of parliament Datuk Jidin Shafiee and Mara chairman Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh were also present.
More than 20,000 people attended the gathering.
