Twenty five students studying Bachelor of Arts in Creative Multimedia presented their final projects to industry guests on 23 and 24 November 2016.
The students were evaluated by industry guests from Inai Kiara Sdn Bhd, Avant Garde Studios, Motiofixo and Story Films Sdn Bhd. The students’ final projects included web, motion graphics, animation and video streams.
The presentation enabled these students from the Faculty of Multimedia Creativity to familiarise with industry critique practises. The exposure also encouraged scholarly dialogue and discussion between students and industry practitioners.
“It was an interesting experience for me to show my work,” said Sayed Nader Naser who is studying Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Creative Multimedia. “They helped to point out the flaws in my work which enabled me to improve my creation.”
He also said that the experience helped him build his confidence in preparing for future job interviews.
“This experience helped me learn what to expect in an interview,” said Yasmin Salem who is studying Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia.
“They gave me opinions which helped me to present myself properly,” said Yassmin Yehia Zakaria Ameen Salem who is also studying Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Creative Multimedia. “Now I know what interviewers look for in project animation.”
During the presentation, the industry guests also shared their advice to help students improve their skills.
“Students need to have more site visits and external seminars to gain more direct industry exposure,” said Irman Ariff bin Abdul Rahman from Inai Kiara Sdn Bhd who is also a lecturer at HELP University. “Like any skill, there is room for improvement.”
“Technology is a tool and a medium that can enhance the output of a student’s work,” he added while advising students to emphasise the importance of conceptualising ideas.
“With a powerful idea that is thought provoking, even with minimum technology, you will still have a great impact.”
Limkokwing alumni Shalini a/p Balasundaram and chief executive officer of Story Films Sdn Bhd stressed the importance of having initiative whereby students must be willing to learn new techniques and ideas.
“I think it is very important when we think of exposure,” she said “Exposure allows a person to grow and learn.”
She explained that new technologies and ideas are being introduced and developed throughout all industries. Exposure enables students to familiarise themselves with newer technologies and to remain competitive.
“Keeping yourself challenged is very important,” she added.
Limkokwing University provides industry exposure for students through collaboration with various organisations. This equips graduates with valuable experience and prepares to compete in a globalised working environment.
