A fantastically frenetic Limkokwing University semester came to fruition when over a thousand students from 67 countries received their undergraduate and postgraduate scrolls in a heartwarming ceremony at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) on 19 December 2019.
The University chose the theme ‘Designing Your Future’ which emphasises going beyond gaining skills and acquiring degrees. It is about building the character of students, expanding their minds to understand the greater responsibilities that await them beyond the boundaries of the University.
Yang Amat Mulia Tengku Arif Temenggong Tengku Fahd Mua’adzam Shah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah was the Guest of Honour at the ceremony, with the University’s Founding President, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Limkokwing in attendance.
Recognising Outstanding Leadership
This year’s ceremony witnessed a conferment of two honorary doctorate recipients to the Honorable Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari who was awarded Honorary Doctorate in Leadership award, in recognition of his valuable contribution over 15 years into politics, and his outstanding ability in people management ― especially youth ― and perseverance towards managing the State of Selangor.
Dato’ Seri Amirudin who is also the Sungai Tua assemblyman, gave an inspirational speech to the graduating class, where he highlighted the importance of hard work and perseverance which saw him rise from a youth wing Vice Chief Division into the Selangor Menteri Besar.
“Opportunities are not just given to others, but it’s giving yourself the opportunity too. Giving yourself the opportunity to learn, to grow. If we don’t grow, we just end up a stone in someone else’s path,” he said.
Receiving an Honorary Doctorate in Entrepreneurship was the Chairman and Managing Director of Chaudhary Group Institute of Management (CGIM) Nepal, Arun Chaudhary. The award recognises his commendable contribution for the education in Nepal through their Institute, and outstanding strategic mindset, people management skills and philanthropy.
Students who had gone above and beyond expectations in their chosen fields received awards in five categories namely the Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Limkokwing Award for Leadership, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Limkokwing Award for Creativity and Innovation, Chancellor’s Award for Academic Excellence, University Colours Award for Ambassadorship, and Leaders of the Future Award.
