Tanisha Demour, a Limkokwing University student studying Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Broadcasting & Journalism is riding high as a model and a brand ambassador for several renowned brands. The Malaysian born 21 year old is also an actress and a title holder of prestigious pageantry titles both in Malaysia and the international stage.
She recalls her passion for modeling at a mere age of 9 but states she had to put her dream aside for her studies. “ I was on the pure science stream which is quite challenging so I had to stay focused, I wanted to be the best student in my high school to get a full scholarship for my degree so that’s what I did,” she said.
Tanisha’s dream career began to look up at the age of 17 when she started modeling. She has done many runway events and photo shoots for brands including L’Oréal, Metrojaya, Guess, Parkson, Mouawad, Petronas and has walked the Runway in Singapore, China and UK. She also did commercial advertisements for the telecommunication company Maxis in Malaysia.
“I joined Limkokwing University in 2013 when I was 18 years old, and it was the best choice I ever made because the world of opportunities opened for me.”
Tanisha acknowledges that apart from being one of the best Universities worldwide, it fosters unity because it has students from over 150 countries.
“Everyone is like a family here, and we celebrate and cherish every moment together. I’ll never experience this anywhere in the world where I get to learn different cultures and traditions from Asia, Africa, Oceania and Europe while pursuing my degree,” she mentioned.
Her dreams continued to soar to greater heights and in 2014, she represented Malaysia at Miss Teen International 2014 pageant held on June 7, at Orchid Country Club in Singapore and was crowned the eventual winner. She also won the gold medal in Self Introduction sub-competition.
On how she felt when she was declared the winner she said, “I was shocked yet I felt extremely excited and glad with my achievement. I looked at my parents and smiled at them as I was going up the stage to be crowned. It was great to prove that I can do it. With this I hope to gain more experience and exposure in dealing with the pageant and entertainment industry.”
Following her historic crowning in 2015, she represented Malaysia at Miss Model of the World contest and was crowned 4th Runner Up at the grand finale of the contest held on October 31, 2015 at Window of the World in Shenzen, China, which recorded Malaysia’s highest placement at the pageant till date.
She also competed at Miss Global International Malaysia and was crowned 2nd Runner Up, receiving the title, Miss Supranational Malaysia 2015 during the grand finale in Sarawak, Malaysia.
Tanisha credits Limkokwing University for sharpening her modeling skills, boosting her self confidence to overcome challenges.
“I have already gained so much experience modeling for the Limkokwing Creativity in Motion fashion show and many more, and as a student ambassador I’ve changed from an introvert to being an extrovert.”
On her biggest achievements since joining Limkokwing University she stated that her biggest achievement was receiving the Chancellor’s Special Award.
“Receiving the Chancellor’s Special Award from Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Lim Kok Wing was a dream come true, I was excited because it’s the highest award for passionate students who obtain the highest achievements internationally.”
Currently the 21 year old is working as a brand ambassador for several international companies in Singapore and China. She aims to see herself as a successful international model, actress and an entrepreneur.
Her last advice was, “Whatever you’ve been aiming for since the very first day, just do it. Give it a try and you’ll see the results. Stay focused on your dreams and goals and never give up.”
For the person whose only exposure to beauty pageants is from what they see on television, it’s difficult to understand why anyone would choose to do a beauty pageant. After all, showcasing the benefits of doing a beauty pageant wouldn’t get the ratings that the drama does. But there are definite benefits or else pageantry wouldn’t be a multi-billion dollar industry.
