Impacting Lives through Education
Written by Christine Chan
Attracted by its good reputation and high acclaim in his home country, Karveen Puddoo made his way from Mauritius to Limkokwing University in Malaysia to pursue his studies in Graphic Design. It was a decision that changed Karveen’s life forever. Christine Chan shares his story with us.
Karveen Puddoo has never regretted a single day in his life from the moment he stepped foot into Limkokwing University of Creative Technology. Born and raised in Curepipe, Mauritius, the 28-year old young man came to Malaysia to pursue his studies in the field of graphic design before finding his calling in the marketing and business line.
The Associate Director of International Development at Limkokwing University in London is all smiles as he describes the ups-and-downs of his life there.
“I’m very proud to be part of a global university with campuses in Asia, Africa and Europe. There are many new projects everyday, something new happens all the time, and you have to continually multitask,” said Karveen, who at the time of interview had just been offered the chance to become the Administrator of the entire Limkokwing London campus.
Karveen Puddoo deals with international markets on a daily basis. With a wide range of responsibilities that include looking into the campus’ daily operations, making sure staff members are happy and comfortable, and ensuring that the courses offered meet their promises, Karveen masterfully handles the nuts and bolts of keeping Limkokwing London running while playing one of the most important roles in the university.
The education industry is about creating a difference in someone’s life.
Karveen is also a key figure in establishing relationships between Limkokwing University and other institutions, including industry partners. Apart from that it is also Karveen also bears the responsibility of publicizing what the university has to offer to every new generation of school leavers.
It is a line of work that has provided him with numerous opportunities to learn more about the rest of the world, as Karveen has travelled to no less than 22 countries as part of the student recruitment campaigns he has been a part of.
2009 is expected to be a busy year for Karveen. A major promotional and student recruitment drive will be run during the month of February, and on top of that Karveen is directly involved in three other projects and events.
These three events are the Cinderella Project, the Best of British Autumn/Winter and Retrofuturism Fashion Show, and the Frock Exchange Event.
“The education industry is about creating a difference in someone’s life. One of the strongest source of satisfaction is when you counsel a student and guide him in his future career, and in a few years from then, you see him graduating with flying colours,” explained Karveen, when asked about the most rewarding experiences in his line of work.
“You help to materialize the dreams of many young people and help them make a choice for their future. When you see someone you have counseled graduate, you know that you have helped that someone to make a difference in tomorrow’s world.”
Karveen has always been a man on the go since his university days. Scoring himself the Young Achievers Award in 2005 and bagging top prize in an industry project assignment for logo design, his track record of excellence has led him to become noticed by the university, and he was soon selected to become Limkokwing University’s Student Ambassador.
Part of the reasons he has continually been on the track of success is due to his own personal views of what success and failure are. Keeping an optimistic perspective on life, Karveen does not believe in a personal definition of failure, stating that even if one does not immediately achieve what one sets out to do, one always learns something from the experience.
He is as equally optimistic about the education industry as he is about everything else. “Education is an industry that will never die because everyone has to study. The difference in education lies in the approach to it, and that’s where Limkokwing University stands out.”
Limkokwing University is a place of opportunities. Students experience an amazing student life here, and receive hands-on training, while the direction of the entire institution is steered by a President who is an amazing visionary
“Limkokwing University is a place of opportunities. Students experience an amazing student life here, and receive hands-on training, while the direction of the entire institution is steered by a President who is an amazing visionary,” said Karveen.
“We have already embarked on global projects which have placed the University as a pioneer in innovative education for developing nations. Very soon, the Limkokwing brand will be an icon for tertiary education in many countries,” said Karveen who describes himself as confident, systematic, disciplined and outgoing.
