Prime Minister Dato' Seri Najib Tun Razak officiated the closing ceremony of the National Academic Decathlon 2015 national round competition held at Limkokwing University's Plaza last night.
The national round of National Academic Decathlon (NAD) 2015, held from 9 to 12 May 2015 at Limkokwing University, saw the participation of more than 300 students from 12 states around Malaysia who have qualified from the five regional rounds.
Jointly organised by the Malaysian Institute for Debate and Public Speaking, Yayasan Minda, UMNO Education Bureau, Education Ministry as well as the Youth and Sports Ministry, the competition was supported by various Malaysian Universities who were the hosts for the regional rounds. Limkokwing University was the host for the KL regional round held on 2 - 3 May 2015 as well as this national round.
The national round saw these students competing through five challenges ranging across five subject areas, which were a combination of academic programmes including debating, writing, public speaking and quizzes. The challenges were specifically designed to test all participants on their critical, speaking and writing skills, their knowledge of important global issues, their capacity to learn in a short period of time, and their leadership and collaborative skills.
Dato’ Seri Najib Razak in his closing speech said he was impressed with the overwhelming response of students in taking part in the challenging competition.
“To have qualified for this must have taken great intelligence, quick wits and hard work. I’m sure all of you have now discovered more about yourself and realised what you are capable of achieving”.
Dato’ Seri Najib thanked the Chairman of NAD 2015, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Shah for bringing the world class National Academic Decathlon competition to Malaysia. He also thanked Limkowing University’s President and Founder, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr. Lim Kok Wing for his support.
“This has been a very exciting event. The enthusiasm here at Limkokwing University is rather infectious”
The champions of the national round will represent Malaysia at the World Scholar’s Cup and the Tournament of Champions at Yale University in the United States.
