Food Court
The staple food of Lesotho is maize, which is usually ground into corn meal, then boiled into a dish called ‘papa’ and served with meat and collard greens as side dishes. Other daily foods include bread, potatoes and rice. Beans, cabbage and pumpkins are grown in abundance while wild spinach can be found in a number of places.
The locals also enjoy mutton, chicken and eggs while in areas close to rivers, freshwater fish supplements the diet. One of the local delicacies you will encounter on a regular basis is fat cakes, which is quite similar to a doughnut, and very popular among the locals. Fruits found abundantly around the country includes apples, apricots, peaches, pears and quinces. Traditional beer is brewed locally.
