Students from the Faculty of Fashion & Lifestyle Creativity volunteered at the recent Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2015 from 12th to 16th Aug.
By volunteering for the event, the students learned to execute operational and logistical duties that were crucial when organising a fashion event, and at the same time, enabled them to observe industrial practices within a multicultural environment.
According to Siti Nur Syuhada Shaharani, Faculty of Fashion and Lifestyle Creativity, these include preparation, organisation and backstage management. These volunteers consisted of students from Diploma and Degree courses.
“We hope that the event will provide the students with more exposure and an opportunity for them to work together,” said Siti Nur Syuhada. “This exposure also allows the students to gain a real feel on how fashion shows are conducted.”
Siti Nur Syuhada said that in addition, these students may apply their learning experience into the academic modules in class which would help them develop greater understanding in the theory and practices of the fashion industry.
Here are what some of the student volunteer had to say about the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Show 2015:-
“This event helped me learn new aspects about fashion shows,” said Namibian student Ester Iyambo who is pursuing a Degree in Fashion & Retailing. “What I have learned here will help me to work in the retail side of the fashion industry and open up my own business.”
“I learned that I had to think on my feet and move fast while paying close attention to fashion designs,” said Ereena Jefri who is also pursuing Degree in Fashion & Retailing. “I also learned the value of patience and professionalism when dealing with multiple people.”
At Limkokwing, the Faculty of Fashion & Lifestyle Creativity provides exposure and experience for students with the industry players to perform within a globalised as well as multicultural environment to achieve industry standards.
