Limkokwing launches Halal International Entrepreneur Centre in London

27 July 2018

Limkokwing University signed a Collaboration Agreement with Halal International Selangor (HIS) and the European Halal Development Agency (EHDA) on 21 July 2018 in London to establish the Halal International Entrepreneurs Centre.

The Centre aims to take Halal business networking to a whole new level, serving as a comprehensive one-stop venue to strategically assist Halal entrepreneurs in going global.

Its establishment in the UK is a giant leap for Malaysia’s national agenda, creating a global footprint in internationalizing the Halal brand for consumers worldwide who demand ethical, organic and safe products.

The Academic Director of Limkokwing University London, Mr Jake Morton, said that in support of the Malaysian agenda of growing more halal entrepreneurs worldwide, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr Limkokwing plans to replicate the Centre at all Limkokwing campuses across Asia and Africa.

“Our founder president was an advocator of the Malaysia’s halal brand long before it became a national agenda. As a matter of fact he was one of the people responsible for the inception of Nestle into the halal sector in the early days of Nestle in Malaysia during the 70’s. Now it’s the global bench mark,” he said at the signing ceremony.

An opportunity to understand the Muslim world

The signing was witnessed by YB Dato’ Teng Chang Khim, Selangor State Senior Executive Councillor (EXCO) for Investment, Industry and Commerce and SME; YBhg. Dato’ Hasan Idris, CEO of Invest Selangor; YBhg. Dato’ Mahmud Abbas, Director of HIS; Dr. Adel Sabir, Chairman and President of EHDA; and YM Raja Dato’ Aznil Raja Hisham, Senior Vice President of Limkokwing University.

More than just a prestigious business address in the elite business district of London, the Centre is a place where Halal entrepreneurs can learn from the best in the international finance capital of the world.

“This is a great opportunity for all of us to understand the Muslim world through industry trade and services, via the establishment of an Innovative Halal Gateway,” said Mr Morton.

Halal is a way of life for 1.6 billion Muslims in 142 countries around the world, with the global industry worth over 2 trillion ringgit annually.

HIS is introducing its Halal Technical Competent Person (HTCP) and Halal Trade Delivery Assurance (HTDA) programmes to attract Halal industries, providing a platform under the agreement for the partners to learn from each other’s expertise in meeting global Halal industry compliance standards.

HIS secured the HTCP training programme together with Universities and Standards Malaysia to cater for the global demand.

“To move to the next level, HIS decided to take a significant initiative in widening access to HTCP by smart partnership collaborations with suitable parties such as Limkokwing University and the European Halal Development Agency,” said Dato’ Mahmud Abbas of Halal International Selangor.
