School counsellors attended the High School Student Counsellor Conference 2017 that was held at Limkokwing University on 21 and 22 February.

The conference was attended by members of the Malaysian Ministry of Education School Management Division together with more than 250 high school counsellors from around Selangor, Malaysia.

The High School Student Counsellor Conference was established to provide career counsellors in Malaysia’s education sector with greater insights into the future career opportunities. Limkokwing University hosted the conference to provide students with career guidance in the creative industry.

High school counsellors participated in workshops and group discussions with experienced professionals from Limkokwing University. This enabled the counsellors to gain more insights on trending and future job opportunities within Malaysia as well as the global market.

“I can see that the future in the creative field is endless,” said school counsellor Ramesh Muthasamy from SMK Bandar Puchong. “The University has shown that career development in designing and animation has a lot of opportunities.”

For Nur Hafizah Suhaidi student counsellor from SMK Seri Mutiara, it enables educators like her to nurture student’s individual talent while grooming them towards a prospective career.

“The University is preparing something that is very good for our students,” she said, “This is related to our education system right now by encouraging them to learn and create innovations.”

She also added that the University offers a multicultural learning environment which could enable them to learn more about the value of diversity.

“This will enable students to know more about career opportunities in creativity and innovation,” added school counsellor Kang Kooi Li from SMK Cochrane. “I also believe that multiculturalism will foster teamwork among the students.”

She also said that the University has students from various countries which encourages cultural interaction and enables local graduates to compete internationally.

Limkokwing University emphasises the importance of career planning amongst students. The University fosters creativity and innovation through multicultural awareness and industry exposure. This ensures greater competitiveness among graduates to pursue a career in the international work environment.
