The Commonwealth of Dominica (Dominica) and Limkokwing University have signed a deal to establish an international campus of the University in Dominica on 16 October 2014.

The Dominican delegation, headed by Ambassador at Large His Excellency Emmanuel Nanthan, signed the Memorandum of Understanding with Dato’ Gail Phung, Limkokwing University’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Development.

During the MOU signing ceremony, Dato’ Gail Phung announced that the Founder/President of Limkokwing University, Tan Sri Paduka Lim Kok Wing offered his services to help the Commonwealth of Dominica in the development of their creative education programme.

His Excellency Emmanuel Nanthan thanks Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing for his generous offer. He said, “The offer is tremendous. His experience and skill are not just demonstrated in Malaysia, South East Asia and Africa. Speaks for itself. And to have him in Dominica and in the Caribbean, we feel honoured and privileged. To have such an expert guy working with us and working with the Caribbean, the Caribbean future is better”.

Both parties aspire to create a new kind of campus which will be a unique and cutting edge University campus specialising in travel, tourism and hospitality management and other disciplines that will contribute greatly to the ongoing social and economic transformation of Dominica.

Dominica has been nicknamed the ‘Nature Isle of the Caribbean’ for its unspoiled natural beauty, which lush mountainous rainforests and is home to many rare plant, animal, and bird species. Dominica’s mountains, rainforests, freshwater lakes, hot springs, waterfalls, and diving spots make it an attractive eco-tourism destination.

With the establishment of the new campus, students from Limkokwing University’s global ecosystem will also have the opportunity be able to pursue a part of their studies in Dominica through the Limkokwing Global Campus initiative.

Dominica is going through a social and economic transformation as it becomes a popular tourist destination and the new campus will contribute greatly towards training human capital of this island nation.

The establishment of this new campus is in line with Limkokwing University’s commitment to globalising education, which will see it setting-up a campus in the Americas after already having a presence in Asia, Europe and Africa.

“Your school has done tremendous work in Asia and Africa and we believe that the frontier of The Caribbean and Latin America and North America is a tremendous potential for the good work done by this great institution”, His Excellency Nanthan commented. “We consider ourselves now to be fully on board the movement to change the world”, he added.
