In today's competitive job market, a strong academic degree is no longer sufficient to guarantee a graduate job offer. Equally valuable is relevant work experience, so internships have become crucial for students aiming to distinguish themselves. Employers now heavily weigh resumes that showcase relevant work experience gained through jobs, volunteer work, or internships.

What exactly is an internship? An internship is experiential learning that combines classroom knowledge with practical application and skill development in a professional or community setting. Internships offer access to resources, equipment, and facilities, enabling students to gain professional experience and acquire skills transferable to other environments. They typically include defined learning objectives, professional supervision, and reflection opportunities, enriching the learning experience.

Internships offer several benefits beyond being a graduation requirement. In a job market where academic achievements alone are insufficient, internships provide real-life exposure, broaden knowledge, and help students confirm their career choices. They offer a glimpse into the working world, allowing students to understand career trajectories for their chosen fields and apply classroom knowledge in practical settings.

Furthermore, internships are gateways to the real world, offering a platform for networking. These experiences are invaluable learning opportunities for young graduates, fostering connections in the professional realm. They also promote personal growth, building self-confidence, and enhancing hard and soft skills. Internships thus provide a competitive edge in the job market.

In summary, internships are pivotal in career development. They equip undergraduates and graduates with real-world exposure and the skills needed to excel in a competitive job market.
The Faculty of Business Management and Globalisation at Limkokwing University, aiming to prepare students for a globalised business environment, has integrated the On-the-Job Training (Internship Programme) into its curriculum. Formerly an open elective, it became a mandatory graduation module in 2018. Students can opt for 3-month full-time or 6-month part-time internships in financial or non-financial organisations.

At Limkokwing, we prepare our graduates with future-ready skills, understanding that business strategists with global insights will shape tomorrow’s world. Our motto, “Be the best, be a Limkokwing graduate,” embodies our commitment to excellence.
