Malaysian born Perassath Servai, a BA (Hons) in Digital Film and Television student at Limkokwing, took a leap of faith and successfully created his first ever ‘real life’ short film.
‘Keling’ was inspired by his 8-year old niece who unfortunately experienced discrimination in her school and this matter was not taken lightly.
He knew he needed to send a message across but also understood that with a topic as sensitive as discrimination, he had to be very creative, yet selective with his interpretation.
“Having being surrounded with diversity everyday, I learned to be culturally sensitive in both my everyday life and in my films,” Perassath said.
With his applied knowledge in Final Cut Pro knowledge that accompanied the message behind his story, Perassath won a place in the Top 10 amongst 55 other entries from 10 different universities and was also nominated best film.
“Winning is always rewarding but to be able to represent my people, tell our story and give them a voice is a feeling like no other,” he added.
Perassath expressed how he felt about being a student at Limkokwing- “The students of Limkokwing are gifted with lecturers who truly care and would go the extra mile for them.”
“I would like to contribute to my beautiful country by telling our stories authentically and with our true identity as Malaysians” he proudly added.
