Limkokwing University Merah Putih Club (MPC) members once again organised SERABI to commemorate Indonesia’s Independence Day.

SERABI stands for Semarak Rayakan Kebersamaan Indonesia, which translates to Passionate Indonesian Unity Celebrations.

Held for the very first time in 2008, this year’s event enters its 11th edition thanks to the MPC, the Indonesian student organisation, that planned the various exciting activities during the one-day event at the Plaza on 28 August 2018.

The event commenced with a flag-raising ceremony, with all the Indonesian students singing the national anthem, followed by performances and fun games such as ‘Tug of War’, ‘Pipes Relay’ and ‘Sack Race.’

For those not so into physical activities, there was an education corner filled with activities that would require brainstorming and in-depth thinking.

A variety of Indonesian dishes were also sold at the food bazaar, attracting a large crowd due to the wide spread of irresistible and mouth-watering Indonesian delights.

Sharing the culture

Indonesian student, Aya Safitri, who is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Digital Film and Television, said that she felt privileged to celebrate such an importanmt and memorable event with her friends.

“It feels like home even though I am in Malaysia. It gives me so much happiness to be able to share my culture with students from many different countries,” she said.

Azra Dhiyanita, who is studying for a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Professional Communication, said she felt really excited but nervous at the same time, because it was her first time on stage, performing a traditional Indonesian dance.

“It was really exciting to see many foreigners participating in the activities and showing so much love and support,” said Azra.
