Limkokwing announces its 2012 achievements

The Limkokwing University of Creative Technology’s HR manager Adv. Tefo Macheli says despite the challenges the university recently faced, the university has accomplished its goals articulated by its vision and mission statements.

Adv. Macheli announced this at a media reception which was intended for the university to disclose its achievements, challenges incurred in the year and way forward for the coming 2013 fiscal year. The university since its inception four years ago has achieved to employ about 191 staff that comprised of 175 full-time staff, seven part-time and nine tutors.

“Our staff number has been tremendously increasing since we opened our doors in 2008. We have also given job opportunities to the 22 university’s alumni, a step we are really proud of,” he added. He also emphasized that the university has brought in the country, specialized fields and skills which is signalled by the type of courses offered which are basically supporting the government of Lesotho’s national vision 2020.

He indicated that decent work and conducive environment for the staff is the core to the university as a result highlighted that they are actively engaged on staff development mechanisms by training and enhancing their knowledge and skills through staff exchange programmes. He also noted that the university has recently introduced the Limkokwing call global staffroom program to give their staff an opportunity to visit other Limkokwing campuses across the globe for a semester or a year to learn delivery of programmes in deeper appreciation, diversity and creation of friendship amongst them.

He said they have resolved disputes between staff and management by reviewing some of the grievances they complained about such as five-year contract staff were given provident fund salary advance and teaching load.

Speaking about the university’s marketing Marcia Mangali added that creating and strengthening working relations with media is their core value. She said the university is known of its award winning trend across the globe. She said they have continually maintained a good standard working together with their industrial partners to help countries achieve their visions. Mangali also highlighted the university’s pride to have contributed to changing people’s lives through its corporate social responsibility programme.

In addition to that, the university is reported to have introduced a LEAP program in 2011 which has up to today helped over 600 students. Explaining how the project works, LEAP’s manager Tsotang Moeketsi said this internship program deal with all final year associate degree students. They have undergone two internship programs since last year. Through this mentorship, Moeketsi mentioned that four companies were registered this year. ‘We are therefore planning to have a LEAP open day to market our students,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mr Chen pointed out that the university is currently undergoing the inspection by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) in preparation for accreditation.
