Shaking up Malaysian Screens

Amar Delon as he is known to his colleagues and peers, is the Senior Consultant and Director of Pearl Media and Solutions that specializes in corporate training such as personal development, sales, marketing, ICT/computers, finance, entrepreneurship, and many more related fields.
Pearl Media and Solutions was launched in 2006 and was soon followed by Amar’s new company, Asiana Film Sdn. Bhd. The company, which was just launched in March 2008, is involved in film, television programmes, and events management.
A graduate of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology’s Advanced Diploma of Multimedia in 1999, Amar underwent a one-week trial course in the university and enrolled as a student not long after.
“Limkokwing University has the overall package for multimedia courses. The University is equipped with the latest technology, enabling students to do more in-depth research,” said 28-year old Amar.
“On top of that, the works produced by the students are really inspiring.”
After graduating, Amar went on to pursue his career in Click Graphics as a Demo Artist. His job scope there covered demonstrating the usage of 3D, and from time to time, he offered tutorial classes to adults on 3D animation.
After a year of working, Amar decided to continue his studies, and went on to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia at RMIT, Australia. Taking the opportunity in Australia to learn more about the film industry there, he secured himself a part-time job where he worked in a local television station.
In no time, Amar became knowledgeable in visual effects, film making and the twists and turns of live television programmes. He began to be involved in several independent films in Australia, including Rage and With a String around His Finger.
His experience and knowledge earned him the chance to become the principal lecturer for 3D animation and video in Limkokwing University. While at Limkokwing University, he not only gave lectures, but was also involved in many industry-related projects, and his competency in the field was proven when he became part of the team that re-drafted the entire 3D animation syllabus for the university.
Two years later, in 2005, Amar returned to Click Graphics where he was appointed Head of Trainings, a job that enabled him to travel across Asia to give trainings and seminars. At that time, pursuing his love in film, Amar also pursued his love in film and was the Chief Assistant Director for the Malaysian feature film Tipu Kanan Tipu Kiri.
To survive in the industry, one must be strictly obedient to deadlines and never promise what you can’t achieve, as punctuality is a key factor to abide to.
“The film industry in Malaysia has been stagnant for a few years,” said Amar, when asked on his views of the local film industry. “It will be more promising to handle jobs for private television networks and companies, and there is plenty of room for catching up especially with neighbouring countries such as Thailand or Singapore.”
Amar’s new company, Asiana Film Sdn. Bhd. is working on a new television series with Ferhad in ASTRO’s Asian Food Channel, as well as an international music video project. Despite being very young, Asiana Film Sdn. Bhd. was previously involved in the production of many corporate videos, a telemovie entitled Mama.net and live television broadcasts.

Nevertheless, Amar makes it clear that the path of the entrepreneur is not strewn with roses. “To survive in the industry, one must be strictly obedient to deadlines and never promise what you can’t achieve, as punctuality is a key factor to abide to,” he advised.
Amar, who fully and clearly aims to expand his two companies in the near future, updates himself with the trends in the industry by mingling with friends involved in the industry as well as actors and actresses. As a committee member of the Film Directors Association of Malaysia (FDAM) he is also kept constantly in the loop.
Success to me is about going where you want to go at your own time, while failure to me is seen as a lesson that needs to be learned before achieving success.
Describing himself as someone who is very strict about protocol at work, punctual, and hardworking, Amar also says that he is a very flexible person when it comes to working with actors and actresses as he is a person of realistic expectations.

With his fierce ambition of developing his two companies into big players not only in Malaysia but across the rest of the world, one wonders where Amar gets his drive and inspiration from. He confides in us who his source of inspiration is: his mother!
Beaming proudly of his mother, Amar explained that she graduated with her first diploma only at 40 years of age and opened her very own kindergarten, Tadika Mutiara Daya, at the age of 45. Today, she has three branches across Malaysia and is learning how to speak and write in Mandarin.
With such a powerful role model to look up to, no wonder Amar is filled with plenty of personal drive! Is it no surprise then, that they say that behind every successful man is a woman?
