Limkokwing University of Creative Technology
Canary Wharf, one of London’s two main financial centres along with the traditional City of London, contains many of the UK’s tallest buildings, including the One Canada Square. It contains around 14,000,000 square feet of office and retail space, which employs around 90,000 people. It is the regional and global headquarters of numerous major banks, professional service firms and media organisations including Barclays, Citigroup, Credit Suisse, and J.P. Morgan.
The Museum of London Docklands on the other hand, tells the history of London’s River Thames and its famous Dockland. Students enjoyed discovering the history of the world’s greatest trading city though videos showing how busy London was in the 19th Century, intensifying people’s preferred lifestyle and experience, and how this shaped the London we know today.
It was an eye-opener for the Global Classroom students as they were amazed by the area’s history. One of the student’s remembered how as a child, his grandfather, who was a sailor on one of the trading ships featured in the films, told him about his adventures.
Mohammed Suhail Mohammed Aljawi Aluraimi, reflected, “To realise the connections we had with our grandfathers because we found the same things that we had heard about, and knowing they worked in one of the largest and busiest ports in the UK made it very special to us.”
The Sainsbury’s Study Centre showed the development of the business and students were captured by the variety in the museum in all three floors of the museum, soaking up the history of London, and enjoying the displays, especially of the ships.
