Palestinian students commemorate 40th Land Day at Limkokwing University

Over 300 students from Palestine celebrated ‘Palestinian Land Day’ at Limkokwing University’s flagship campus in Cyberjaya on 6 April. The celebration featured national songs, poetry, Palestinian cultural dances and a photo exhibit.
30 March 2016 marks the 40th anniversary of the mass upsurge inside Occupied Palestine ’48 on 30 March 1976, in response to an Israeli state attempt to confiscate over 4000 acres of land from Palestinians in the Galilee.
The day commemorates the lives of six Palestinians gunned down by the Israeli forces during the general strike and protests after the Israeli government announced plans to expropriate more land for Jewish-only settlements.
Present at the event were; the Ambassador of Palestine to Malaysia, His Excellency Dr. Anwar Al Agha; Diplomatic attaché of Qatar Embassy, Mr. Mubarak Abdulhamed Mubark Alkubaisi; Economic attaché of Algeria Embassy, Mr. Kamel Souici; Second Secretary Iraq Embassy, Mr. Hassan Alhaidari; Cultural Attache of Yemen Embassy, Mr. Rushdi Saeed Al Koshab; Minister Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Sudan, Mr. Muawia Eltoum Elamin ElBukhari; Limkokwing University Vice President of Special Event Dato’ Fajura Juffa Mohd Mustafa Kamal; staff and students.
Khalid Mohamed Aburadi, studying Bachelor of Business in Entrepreneurship was grateful to be able to celebrate Palestinian Land Day even though he was far away from home.
“It feels great to honour this day on campus surrounded by our brothers and sisters and our embassy’s delegation especially when we are on the other side of the world. I am so proud of being Palestinian studying in Limkokwing University,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the Founder and President of Limkokwing University Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Lim Kok Wing, Dato’ Fajura Juffa congratulated the Palestinian Club President and students for organising the event.
“We’d like to thank the Palestinian community of this campus for putting together this activity for all of us to internalise and learn from. Your continuous efforts and urge to educate anyone is for everyone to emulate,” she said.
His Excellency Dr. Anwar Al Agha expressed his gratitude for the support Limkokwing University has shown towards Palestinian students.
“We are very happy to see our brothers and sisters from the state of Palestine, from the Arab countries and from all the nations here at Limkokwing University who are really supporting us at this moment as we are commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Palestinian Land Day,” he said.
In 2004 Limkokwing University launched the for ‘Plight of the Palestinians; A Nation Denied A Homeland’ campaign video which aired over television to convey the magnitude of the suffering endured by the people of Palestine.
In conclusion to his speech, His Excellency Dr. Anwar Al Agha said, “We hope Limkokwing University will always give us the chance to help Palestinian students and we give special thanks to Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Lim Kok Wing for his keenness in helping the Palestinian people.”
