Limkokwing University first launched a mobile app in 2009 with features that were unique to the university. These features within the app enabled students to get updates regarding their studies, campus updates as well as other various student services. Built for a wider audience, the public will also be able to receive news, course details and contact the university.
The new iOS application builds upon the already groundbreaking mobile app with several key features that make it a must have. The app will enable students to get the latest news and view upcoming events as well as exam results and current semester modules. Students can also access their course notes, assignments, class schedule and urgent reminders on fees straight from their devices, making their smartphones an indispensable tool for everyday student life at Limkokwing University campuses worldwide. With a student body spanning three continents, the new Limkokwing app is developed for students worldwide.
Designed and built wholly in-house by the Centre of Content Creation (CCC), the team developed an iOS application that’s fluent in iOS 7’s design language, dispensing with skeuomorphism for clean lines and modern sleekness. Natively built on iOS, its lightweight nature enables a faster, smoother experience as well as animations for a better user experience. With a streamlined layout that’s designed for pure utility, the new Limkokwing University app is faster and smoother than any iteration before it.
Presented with the challenge of developing an iOS application that’s in line with iOS 7’s design language as well as working within the guidelines of the environment, the development team in the CCC went back to the drawing board to rediscover what makes an app great. Functionality, design, and user friendliness are what makes iOS itself great. Any app built for iOS 7 must skew closely to those three pillars, and with that in mind the team began design and development on the app after an extensive period of research.
Development mainly consisted of building the framework that enabled APIs to interact with the university’s proprietary database system. This allows the app to pull data directly from the university’s database and gives students access to all information and updates in real time, and is the key feature of the new app. Effectively a student portal on mobile, students will be connected on the go and will never have to worry about gaining to access important information on the fly.
Like the newly launched Android app, this version is open the students of the university and the public. Once installed in their devices, students need to login using the same usernames and passwords that are used to access their Student Portal accounts in order to access all features of the app. Available free on Apple’s App Store for both the iPhone and iPad, students will be able to use all feature while the public can view course details, news and articles and contact the university.
