Students from the Limkokwing University received a taste of the fashion world on 17 Aug 2017 during the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week that was held at the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur Shopping Centre.

Fifteen students from Faculty of Fashion and Lifestyle Creativity attended the fashion showcase under the theme ‘Ready to Wear’ which features collection by Malaysian designers meant for local as well as international customers.

As part of their learning experience, students gained real world knowledge by interacting with industry professionals and veteran designers.

During the showcase, students received front row seats which enabled them to review designs by experienced designers in greater detail.

“I found it very interesting,” said Malaysian student Thayhallen a/l S. Paranthamar who is studying Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Fashion Design. “Through this experience, I learned that designs are limitless and you can design anything at all.”

He added that he was able to gain a first-hand look at how professional designers used their ideas to create designs for children and adults.

For Iranian student Azadeh Tayyebi Moghaddam who is studying Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Fashion Design, this exposure helped her to understand other aspects of the fashion industry.

“I learned a lot through this show and learned a lot of different types of design which inspired me to know more about the various types of fabric and styles,” she said.

Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Fashion & Retailing student Lisa Sikana from Zambia also learned the value of confidence and expression.

“You need confidence and be able to express your designs to be in this industry,” she explained. “Attending this show has given me so much confidence that I know that when I create something, there will be an audience who will see my talents and they will be recognised by other designers.”

“This fashion show gives us more experience while enabling us to meet other professionals to learn new ideas and techniques,” added Indonesian student Novena Suhanda who is also studying Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Fashion Design. “I learned about techniques to combine colours to create an attractive design because if this.”

Limkokwing University is a multicultural learning institution that emphasises the importance of industry exposure.
