He is bringing a fresh attitude to Malaysian politics. He balances both urban and rural expectations with ease, understanding their issues, sensitive to their needs and innovative in his solutions. Datuk Seri Haji Idris bin Haji Haron has an infectious youthful perspective that is already changing the landscape of his birth state - Melaka - within months after he became its tenth Chief Minister in 2013. A professional used to the stress and demands of his career he has a unique view of life that comes from an exposure to Asian and Western education.

Engaging in entrepreneurship shifts young people from being 'job seekers' to 'job creators' and also from social dependence to self-sufficiency.

He received his degree in electrical engineering from the University of Texas in the United States of America. He later expanded his knowledge of electrical distribution systems receiving training at the Tokyo Kensyu Centre in Japan.

A global leader in youth empowerment

President of the World Assembly of Youth since 2010 Datuk Idris Haron has been working actively on youth empowerment with national youth councils from over 100 countries across the world including Russia, Great Britain, Australia, Germany, Turkey, Brazil and others from Europe, Asia, Africa, Middle-East and South America. He has used this platform to benefit Malaysian youths connecting them to youths from across the world so they may understand global issues and gain competency in managing challenges of a new world.

An inspirational leader, politically savvy and people-friendly

Datuk Idris Haron is among the new generation politicians who lead by inspiration. A prolific and persuasive speaker he is fluent in three languages - Bahasa Malaysia, English and Japanese. His entry into politics was influenced by his desire to inspire a new generation of Malaysian youths imbued with the skills and knowledge to take the country to the envisioned high-income status. He is in the perfect position to translate government aspirations into doable actions that youths can relate to so they may dovetail their life pathway to meet the goals anticipated.

In 2008 when he was appointed Deputy Minister of Higher Education he strengthened his work on youth advancement using his status to bridge gaps, especially between the rural heartland and urban centres. Now as Chief Minister he is working to improve the employability of youths by expanding the state's economic profile. He sees the involvement of foreign investors in opening up new sectors will enable youths to be engaged in hi-income careers.

For the passion, commitment and dedication with which he is engaged in endeavours to uplift youth through empowerment the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology is honoured to bestow upon YAB Datuk Seri Ir. Hj. Idris bin Hj. Haron the Honorary Doctorate Degree in Youth Development this day 19 December 2013.
