Limkokwing explores partnership with London-based Hackney Community College

12 April 2012, by Mehrdad Borna

Limkokwing is looking to partner with London-based Hackney Community College and put in place exclusive arrangements to facilitate the transfer of Hackney students who wish to further their studies in Cyberjaya, Malaysia.

Hackney currently offers full and part-time programmes including GCSEs, A-Levels, 14-19 Diplomas, apprenticeships and vocational courses.

Hackney’s Director of International Partnerships, Tayebeh Kazempour visited the University’s London campus recently to follow up on earlier discussions between the two parties.

During the visit, Kazempour expressed keen interest in the University’s global presence and its educational philosophy that encourages its students to travel and study abroad to gain global experiences. She added that being able to collaborate with Limkokwing University, with its 12 campuses worldwide, will make it possible for her to offer wider exposure and invaluable industry experiences to Hackney’s British students.

She was also keen to provide Hackney students with opportunities to develop not only a creative mindset, but acquire industry knowledge, skills and leadership qualities to face global challenges. Another issue brought up by Kazempour during her visit was the possibility of developing joint programmes to enable students from Hackney or other institutions to take up Limkokwing degree or short programmes which offer strong employment opportunities.

Kazempour is set to visit the University’s Cyberjaya campus in the near future to wrap up the partnership.

Hackney Community College has 9,000 students each year studying at their two campuses in East London. The college is working with other organisations to prepare locals to make the most of the opportunities brought to the region by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Some Hackney students are working on the Olympic Park and others are training to get other Games-related work. In recognition of this, it was one of the first London colleges to join the official ‘2012 Get Set’ network that rewards and recognises its members for demonstrating a commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic values.
