Creativity in Motion – runway to fame for graduating Limkokwing talents

29 March 2012, by Mathew Morais

This is the only learning institution where creativity is celebrated on the campus everyday by students through exciting learning methods that bring out the best in them, be it in their academic pursuits or through out-of-the classroom activities such as the recent Creativity in Motion fashion extravaganza in the heart of fashionable Bangsar.

The evening was already charged with anticipated excitement as the first guests started to pour in dressed in their stunning best. Gracing the scene were Gillian Hung, President of MODA, Thanuja, Miss Malaysia and the flamboyant writer and blogger, Kee Hua Chee among other fashion celebrities.

International aura

The show certainly belonged to a group of talented Limkokwing graduates, students and alumni who worked seamlessly to ensure this year’s fashion installment was the best ever, which it was judging from the spontaneous rounds of applause from the largely youngish crowd and curious shoppers.

Making sure everything went with clock-work precision was a team of 25 designers from seven countries and about 40 models from 30 countries who together gave Creativity in Motion a global touch that was simply Limkowking in style and execution.

Celebration of creativity

Creativity in Motion is an annual event hosted by Limkokwing and anchored by Malaz and Jonah Sithole of the ‘Magic of Limkokwing Radio Show’ fame now airing on Hitz.fm.

The evening air was charged with excitement and electrifying it was the MC team of Jonah Sithole (Zimbabwe) and Malaz (UK) and Vickie Edwards (Canada); they had the crowd thoroughly entertained with their enthusiasm and professionalism.

At Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, students are encouraged to plan and execute campus projects on their own to unleash their creative thinking and to discover their talent and skills; it is a learning process that’s very much part of the institution’s innovative approach to building their confidence and entrepreneurial spirit.

Good as professional models

The fashion extravaganza was a wonderful occasion to give traditional cultural classics such as the Indian sari, Mongolian tribal shamans, Malay weavings and African drums a refreshingly innovative look that brought the shopping complex to a standstill for a good three hours.

The creativity fashion show is a collaboration of various disciplines of the University involving hair design, communications, broadcasting, multimedia, sound and music, public relations and event management, the end result of which was a stunning fashion expression that was out-of-this-world and, above all, simply entertaining.

Interesting themes

Altogether more than 30 glorious outfits were paraded by trendy male and female models including the randy Tribal Shaman designed by Dulguun Purevjav of Mongolia.

Lee Ji Hee from Korea introduced her moody but stunning creation, the Sad Painting while Malaysian Nik Amanina Liyana’s Wedding design drew the loudest bouts of whistles and ‘wows’ from the audience.

Look what they done to the traditional Sari? Wel,l when you are embedded with innovation, creativity is obviously the final outcome. Here the designer and model are only too happy to show off their creations.

Associate Vice President, Creativity and Innovation, Tiffanee Marie Lim, who put the show together, said creativity applied in developing this collection is the same type of creativity applied in everything Limkokwing does.

“Inspiration can come from anywhere or anything. Sometimes it is the movement of a beautiful creature or a dark noise that sparks an interest. But always, it comes from the way you feel when you see what is beautiful about the world, and how it inspires you to do better. It is inspiration that matched with equal passion that leads to creative expression.”

International university

This spirit of creativity is vividly obvious at all Limkokwing campuses spread across three continents in Asia, Africa and Europe, and no matter where they are studying, Limkokwing students are driven by a passion to excel in all their pursuits.

This can be attributed to the University’s multicultural ecosystem that allows local and international students to interface, intermingle and interact with one another dismantling divides to build bridges of friendship, knowledge and global understanding.

Limkokwing is the only local University to have globalised Malaysian education; today it has twelve campuses housing more than 30,000 students from 150 countries worldwide.

The Cyberjaya campus alone is home to 9,000 students with most of them coming from 140 countries worldwide.

Next year’s Creativity in Motion is another fashion success waiting to be staged…until then here’s to all who made Creativity in Motion the best fashion show of the year.
