Zimbabwe ambassador to Malaysia, His Excellency Cuthbert Zhakata, paid another visit to Limkokwing University’s flagship campus in Cyberjaya on 20 September 2018.
The purpose of the visit was a follow-up in discussion on a collaboration between Limkokwing and the Government of Zimbabwe.
HE Zhakata was hosted by the University’ Senior Vice Presidents Dato’ Gail Phung, Dato’ Raja Aznil and Dato’ Fajura Juffa Mohd Mustafa, on behalf of the Founder and President of Limkokwing University, Tan Sri Dato Sri Paduka Dr. Limkokwing.
During the meeting HE Zhakata expressed his keenness in establishing ties with Limkokwing University as he stated that Zimbabwe needed creative skills in tertiary institutions.
“In most countries in Africa we are brought up to be academics so Limkokwing skills are vital, what we need is a change of mindset,” he said.
Limkokwing Senior Vice President Dato Raja Aznil confirmed that since the University’s inception in Africa, it has produced industry-ready youth who are heading ventures in various industries.
“In Limkokwing Botswana, we have alumni that are now heading businesses in media, architecture, design and so on. We implemented the LEAP programme that grooms students to be entrepreneurs before they graduate.”
Currently the University has campuses in Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland and Sierra Leone with three more scheduled to open in Namibia, Uganda and Nigeria.
Limkokwing, which is also a Global TVET Model University, actively works with governments, especially those in developing countries, to build the human capital needed to widen their economic sectors by introducing new programmes that empower youth with the ability to use creative thinking to solve problems and provide solutions from a fresh new perspective.
