An inspiring journey, a compelling story
The book in itself has been a journey of sorts for its author, Ms Ambi Mathe, who took 14 years to complete the story. It was, the author said, forced into a conclusion so that a printed version could be produced. “The enormous drive and energy of Tan Sri Lim keeps opening new chapters which is why the book took so long to complete,” said Ms Mathe.
Work on the book began in the mid-90s when Tan Sri Lim was already an industry legend within the advertising community. The university he had created was still a fledgling enterprise. Therefore the contents of the book focused on his philanthropic, industry, government-related and international efforts.
“His increasing focus on education changed the whole skew of book. So by 2003 the writing of the book had been done with a major portion devoted to education. Come 2007 the book was not valid anymore because, again, the scenario had evolved,” said Ms Mathe.
She said in 2009 she re-skewed the entire book under the new title. “Give him another year and things will change again,” she said.
