The President of Botswana, Lieutenant General Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama, officiated Limkokwing University’s fourth annual Christmas tree lighting on 9 November 2016 at Rail Park Mall.
In commemoration of Botswana’s 50th Independence Day celebration, the President lit up a 12-meter high and 6-meter wide tree with 50,000 lights.
The annual Christmas tree lighting is part of Limkokwing University’s ‘Heal the World’ programme; a peace and outreach initiative spearheaded by students to promote compassion and create social awareness through campaigns and fundraising activities for the most pressing global concerns.
The event was a joyful one as it ignited the Christmas spirit by extending a helping hand to children from the SOS Home. The University also launched a Christmas Album titled ‘Never Give Up’ recorded by the student choir.
Speaking at the ceremony, Limkokwing University Vice Chancellor Professor Cedric Bell said giving back to society must be a lifelong activity that goes beyond financial contributions.
Attending the ceremony were government ministers, industry captains, lifestyle and entertainment artists, the media and the public.
