Limkokwing Student Volunteers Bring Cheer to PWD (Persons with Disabilities) Centres in Klang Valley
Keeping alive the legacy of the late founder of Limkokwing University, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Limkokwing, to care for the elderly and less fortunate, a group of student volunteers and staff from the Cyberjaya campus visited several Orang Kurang Upaya (OKU) homes in the Federal Territory and some outlying areas in Selangor.
The volunteers included Limkokwing students, interns and staff who responded readily to serve a worthy human cause by calling on the disabled residents with attractively-wrapped hampers and Limkokwing T-shirts.
These young people from the University once again rose to the occasion to demonstrate the spirit of care that was passed down to them by the late Founder of Limkokwing University, Tan Sri Dato Sri Paduka Limkokwing.
Led by Shiva Kafil, the Limkokwing volunteers presented hampers and T-shirts to the happy residents of the respective OKU centres; Persatuan Kebajikan Chen Ai OKU, Damai Disable Person Association, Society for the Severely Mentally Handicapped Selangor and Federal Territory, and Handicapped And Disabled Children’s Association of Klang, Selangor.
“Visiting the OKU centres was an eye-opening experience for me. I also realised how little knowledge we have about the disabled community. Better and wider awareness will help the public understand how the smallest of gestures can make a huge difference in the less fortunates’ day and bring them joy. Over a hectic week of intense visits, the team dropped by 12 homecare and OKU centres in Kuala Lumpur and Seri Kembangan.
Above all, these young men and women from Limkokwing University showed the world that education brings out the best in people, regardless of race, culture or religion which allows them to serve the people of the world with a selfless heart.
