The Nikon and Limkokwing University Sculpture Creation Project saw Foundation in Design students create nine characteristic sculptures under the concept of ‘I am in Motion: An Icon of Innovation’.

60 students from 17 countries participated in this industry project that was aimed at using recyclable items for the production as it helps to reduce the disposable plastic waste via a more creative method which serves both brands’ corporate social responsibility objectives.

‘We have infused creativity with photography through this collaboration. Limkokwing University’s students’ creativity have been brought forward into the sculptures. I can see that the students have become more innovative with the recycled products into a worthy product. Nikon is riding together with Limkokwing on the platform of creativity and photography,’ said Senior Manager of Nikon Professional Services, Mahfooz Nabi Rasool.

Mahfooz added, ‘I can see the great effort from the students through the sculptures. The students deserve great applause. This is actually one of our first projects with Limkokwing but I can foresee that this is a very good collaboration as the approach is beneficial to both parties. We are going to take these sculptures around places with our Nikon activities to show everyone the outcome of this great collaboration.’

The group leader of the ‘I Am Awesome’ sculpture, Karina Arystanova from Kazakhstan said, ‘When I entered Limkokwing University, I didn’t expect to work with such a huge company like Nikon and I’m very thankful to Limkokwing University for giving the chance to me and my group members to prove what we can do. It was very joyful to know that such a big company paid attention to our project.’

Malaysian student Vishnu Prenta, the group leader of ‘I Am Lyrical’ (a sculpture with a ballerina concept) said, ‘After lots of research, our main challenge was the material and the base for the sculpture. With the support from our lecturers, we have gone through that. I should thank Limkokwing University for having the faith and believing in foundation students because this is a great opportunity for us. As students, we have gained the knowledge of working with the industry.’

‘Through our foundation studies in design, we have learned how to be creative and to present good work with good quality for the biggest companies such as Nikon. We have gained lots of experience with this project but the most important one was the communication between group members. We wanted to show something huge about Nikon, something futuristic. The entire project was interesting, challenging and fun for us,’ shared the group leader of the ‘I Am Affection’ sculpture, Amirata Ashkiani from Iran.
