Limkokwing Lesotho’s Faculty of Communications Media and Broadcasting - year two and three students organised a successful Gangsterism Awareness and Mental Awareness Campaign at Rasetimela High School in Berea recently.

Themed “Rise Above Rebellion, Stand for A Better Future!” -  the primary goal for the campaign was to educate and enlighten youth about the detrimental effects of drug abuse and gangsterism.
Special guests at the event were representatives from Green Minds, a youth-led mental health organization and Lesotho Mounted Police Services (LMPS) - Crime Prevention Unit (CPU).

Sergeant Mokhesuoe, stressed that involvement in gangsterism activities could result in a criminal record, hindering future employment prospects -while Mr. Mpiti, a traffic officer, elucidated the dangers of gang involvement and shared resources available for those seeking to leave gangs.

As part of their initiative, Limkokwing Public Relations students recognised efforts of eight identified police officers in Maseru who were presented with gloves among other tokens of appreciation for their dedication and creative contributions to fighting crime. Furthermore, Rasetimela High School students were provided with sanitary towels and school socks as a gesture of kindness and care.

Ms. Ithabeleng Lechesa, a year 2 student, shared poignant remarks during the opening ceremony, recalling her time as a former Rasetimela High School student. She emphasised the dire impact of gangsterism on the community, recounting a past gathering to commemorate a fellow student lost to gang-related activities.

Ms. Ntsoaki Khuto, a year 3 student conveyed to students the high expectations their parents hold for them. She urged them to wisely focus on maintaining these expectations, avoiding activities that could jeopardize their promising futures.

In closing, Mrs. ‘Masaoana Saoana, the principal of Rasetimela High School, expressed gratitude to Limkokwing University students and stakeholders for their impactful initiative. She encouraged students to take the discussions to heart, believing that such engagements could bring about positive change in their lives.

Through our Former Founding President’ Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Limkokwing’s Heal the World Campaign - Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives have always been an integral part in shaping our students to be responsible members of the community.
