The Limkokwing University fashion club is back in 2012, with a more amplified fashion experience. The group of upcoming models and designers will be serenading the plaza with their vibrancy and creative garments influenced by their individual fashion cultures, and trends from over 15 countries, every Thursday, at 12Pm to 1Pm.
The first theme that the Fashion Club members decided to work on was the theme “Red-kilious”, inspired by the colour red, which is the 2013 colour trend. Just this way, fashion club members come up with different theme each week and work according to it and show their creativity.
The backbone of the show consisted of 19 designers, 17 designs and 17 models from more than 10 countries namely; Iran, China, Russia, Korea, South Sudan, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Egypt and Kyrgyzstan. The diploma students were in charge of styling, makeup, and garments, while the degree students were handling the management of the shows and putting together a mind-blowing programme.
The Fashion Club students are the core of all the grand fashion shows, which Limkokwing University frequently organizes and participates in to showcase its student’s creativity and flair. These fashion shows include many which were organized this year.
Like these students, many other students who seized the opportunity in joining the fashion club and learning through it, recently had the chance to showcase their talents in fashion capital cities, like Paris and London. Limkokwing University has proudly this year put on shows in these glamorous places, not too long ago, Limkokwing University was the first Asian University to be able to showcase at the London Fashion Week, in collaboration with Botswana High Commission in London.
The University’s presence and participation in such prestigious fashion shows are all ground breaking achievements, who got such a rare opportunity from the University to have their work displayed in front of many high profile designers and having their complimented by them. At J Summer fashion show, Limkokwing University’s breath taking collection was in the midst of brands like Chula from Spain, Jaeger London, from the UK and Verano High from the United States.
The purpose of the fashion Club is to motivate students. It is to create a regular activity where all University students from different faculties and countries, are able to participate and socialize and learn the skills of team work, and cultural diversity in fashion.
According to one of the fashion club coordinators Eva Lopa, from South Sudan ”The Fashion Club is not only a Fashion event but involves all fields such as Music, Photography, event planning, hair and make-up, writing(Broadcasting & Journalism), Business marketing, Advertising and many more. Limkokwing Fashion Club exists to assist and help students prepare and practice for a bright future.”
Lifestyle coordinator from Indonesia, Fernika Thomas said that, “In future we plan to have representatives from the fashion industry in our midst supporting this initiative. Limkokwing University has given us platform to showcase our talents. We’ve had so much fun today and the fun continues every Thursday.
