Global Peace Day is celebrated worldwide to reinforce Universal Peace Day which is observed on 11 November each year where people from all walks of life, from different faiths and cultures, assemble to observe a minute of silence with the thought of peace for the entire globe.
Limkokwing University welcomed a delegation from the Malaysia Global Peace Committee at the Cyberjaya campus on 11 October 2018 to discuss a collaboration in the area of branding the Global Peace Day celebrations in Malaysia with the theme “Malaysia for Global Peace” as well as organizing the Longest Human Peace Chain.
The delegation was led by Committee Chairman, Dr. Amir Farid Isahak, who voiced his amazement at the warm welcome from Limkokwing staff and students, before being taken for a tour of the Presidential Library.
He was joined on the tour by Committee members, Dr. Sarasijam Nair, Mr. Thagarajan Manickam, Ms. Supriya Prasannan, Ms. Logeswary and Ms. Amsa Naidu, where they were briefed on the many achievements of Founder President Tan Sri Dato Sri Dr. Limkokwing and the University, both in Malaysia and abroad.
“It is truly impressive to witness a single man who has won so many awards in his career, and I have to say, I don’t think there can be anyone who can match his brilliance when it comes to creative works,” said Dr. Amir.
Collaboration for World Peace
After the tour, the delegation met with Tan Sri Limkokwing and Senior University officials to discuss possible avenues of collaboration.
“We want to work together and take the programme to greater heights. If you can join us and give us ideas, we will be very honoured Tan Sri,” said Ms. Supriya.
Dr. Amir said the type of creative energy that Limkokwing University brings to the table is essential in helping to brand this year’s Global Peace Day programme, and the ones to come in the future.
“I respect the passion that the committee has to promote peace and we will certainly work together to make this happen,” said Tan Sri Limkokwing.
Prime Minister invited to officiate “Malaysia for Global Peace”
During the meeting, the delegation mentioned that the Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, has been invited to officiate the event.
The ‘Longest Human Peace Chain’ is set to take place at Dataran Putra next month, and is expected to be the largest interfaith gathering held in Malaysia.
Tan Sri Limkokwing is renowned for his humanitarian efforts and has received numerous accolades and awards from leaders worldwide.
Among the issues that he has championed on the world stage are denuclearization and the banning of weapons of mass destruction, the prevention of war, and the abolition of apartheid.
Tan Sri Limkokwing famously assisted Nelson Mandela in winning South Africa’s first democratic presidential elections in 1994, and he later initiated campaigns that highlighted the plight of Muslim Palestinians and persecutions of Bosnians.
