Students studying Digital Film and TV showcased their final presentations to a panel of industry guests on 15 June 2017.
The industry panel included Nuansa Films Sdn Bhd marketing partner Sita Subramony, freelance film director Syed Mohamed Benyahya as well as Limkokwing University alumni members: documentary filmmaker and director Josh de Silva, and Iranian film director Mohammadreza Shams.
The panel reviewed 11 short films to assess students’ skills in directing, cinematography and storytelling.
“It was very amazing,” said Sita Subramony after viewing all the films. “There were some pieces of work which really blew my mind, and I really didn’t expect this quality of filmmaking.”
She also added that their personality, creativity, and passion for their work could be seen in their production efforts.
“I am impressed by what I see as well as the commitment in producing a good work,” said Syed Mohamed Benyahya. “I can see that some of them show potential as film directors or directors of photography.”
According Josh de Silva, the presentation had immersed everyone from the panel, who were very captivated with the students’ production quality.
“We can really see that they put their heart and soul, and they deeply care for their work,” he added. “I think true artists express from a place of sincerity and you can see that sincerity in their work.”
Josh also complimented the technical skills students have displayed, especially in terms of editing, narrative, and close attention to detail as well as the proper use of sound and photography to create the right atmosphere.
For Mohammadreza Shams, this year’s films were so professional that even he found it difficult to believe that it was students’ work.
“It was completely professional,” Mohammadreza said. “I think most of the students who attended this screening had great potential and they showed it in their movies.”
