The greatest asset of any nation is its youth population. For herein lies the future. The greater the knowledge and the capability of the next generation, the brighter the future of the country. Developing the right human capital is, therefore, a priority within Botswana’s Vision 2016 aspirations of creating an innovative economy for the 21st century. The Limkokwing University of Creative Technology brings an exciting dimension to Botswana education where creativity and innovation will play primary roles to unlock the potential of our young people. It is our hope to transform Botswana into Africa’s innovation hub by tapping into the creativity of Batswana and our cultural heritage to develop the economy beyond the mining and tourism sectors which are today the primary engines of growth. The roadmap to achieving our aspirations includes a plan to transform Gaborone into an education hub that will attract African talents. I am very pleased that Limkokwing University that has been producing successful Batswana graduates for several years, is now here among us to provide the 21st century learning environment that will develop this corps of smart, creative and techno-savvy graduates. Today, I am indeed pleased to note the official opening of Limkokwing University Botswana, true to this institution’s moniker of being ‘The Global University’. I am also greatly encouraged by this opening, as it represents a strong testimony to the quality of Malaysian higher education, and its growing acceptance abroad. Strengthening Botswana’s education system by developing our creativity and innovation capabilities We live in an era of great possibilities. The world is accelerating at a rate that only our young people can provide the energy to keep up with the changes. How well we equip them is how well Botswana can participate in the transformation. We need education that is innovative in its approach and that can bring out the creativity of our young people so we can build an innovation hub that will bring students from all Africa and also beyond Africa.
