Limkokwing Class of 2019: 1,100 Graduates, 70 Countries, 1 Convocation

Over a thousand students from 70 countries received their undergraduate and postgraduate scrolls at the Limkokwing University Graduation Ceremony held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) on 22 June 2019.

‘Designing Your Future’ was chosen as the theme of the Convocation, highlighting the University’s emphasis on building students’ character and expanding their minds to understand the greater responsibility that awaits them.

Yang Amat Mulia Tengku Arif Temenggong Pahang Tengku Fahd Mua’adzam Shah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah was the Guest of Honour at the ceremony, which was attended by the University’s Founder President, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr. Limkokwing.

Yang Amat Mulia Tengku Arif Temenggong Pahang received a token of recognition from the University for his Passionate Involvement in environmental conservation through the Sultan Ahmad Shah Enviornmental Trust which he co-founded and currently manages.


Star Media Group adviser and veteran media practitioner Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate in Leadership, his first, in recognition of his significant contributions of over three decades to journalism and the media industry in Malaysia.

He gave an inspirational speech to the graduating class, where he highlighted the importance of hard work and perseverance which saw him rise from a rookie reporter into the CEO of the Star Media Group.

“Opportunities will come when you have the drive and ambition to do whatever it takes to achieve your goal,” said Datuk Seri Wong.


Also receiving tokens of appreciation from the University were Puan Sri Maniseh Adam, the Patron of the Pink Ribbon Wellness Foundation, for exemplifying courage in adversity, and Dr. Sarasijam Nair for her passionate advocacy of global peace.

Students who had gone above and beyond expectations in their chosen fields received awards in five categories namely the Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr. Limkokwing Award for Leadership, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr. Limkokwing Award for Creativity and Innovation, Chancellor’s Award for Academic Excellence, University Colours Award for Ambassadorship, and Leaders of the Future Award.


Celebrating our Differences

Addressing the Class of 2019, Tan Sri Limkokwing thanked the graduates for their contribution to the University through the awards and records that they had won and achieved.

He said that the success of Limkokwing graduates worldwide is partly because of the global ecosystem that it cultivates on campus, recognized as the most international university of its kind in the world.

“Here, we celebrate our differences. Here, we come together because of our differences. Here, we design a more cohesive, more equal, more peaceful future,” said Tan Sri Limkokwing.

Among the graduates from 70 countries who received their scrolls was Doaa S. I. Awaja of Palestine who had earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Management.

“I found a home in Limkokwing where I have been given love. The experiences here made me grow like I thought I never would. This Ph.D from Limkokwing has given me a voice and courage to voice out my thoughts,” she said.

Meanwhile, Papa Amadou of Senegal who earned a Bachelor of Business (Hons) in International Business, took the opportunity to thank the University for helping him change his life.

“Thank you Tan Sri Limkokwing for transforming not only my life but the lives of all graduates here. I have seen myself transforming into a better version of myself,” said Papa Amadou.

So far this year, over 10,000 students from Limkokwing University Worldwide have graduated, unleashing an empowered pool of talented young people trained to meet and exceed industry expectations with skills in the latest technological advancements.

Limkokwing graduates are equipped with a combination of a global outlook and network, primed to take advantage of every opportunity in the age of globalisation.

Through these graduations, the new skills that will be released into the global marketplace cover a wide range of disciplines for high-career incomes in the highly digital world. The digital tech-savvy programmes range from electrical and electronic engineering, mobile computing, games technology, cloud computing technology, digital media, and design innovation.
