The competition invited participation from the best basketball teams from tertiary institutions in Malaysia and Singapore. Institutions that also took part are Malaysia’s UiTM and Taylor’s University, as well as Singapore’s Republic Polytechnic.

Along the way to its runners-up finish, Limkokwing University managed to beat the winners of this year’s University College Basketball League, Taylor’s University by a score of 47-11. It also won against Republic Polytechnic, 69-58. Limkokwing University did not compete in its first match against UiTM which led to the latter winning 0-20 due to the competition’s walkover rule.

The UiTM Basketball Regional Classic 2012 was won by the hosts, UiTM.
