Limkokwing launches album

Limkokwing University of Creative Technology on Tuesday launched its debut album titled Lesotho Christmas Melodies.

The album was officially launched by Deputy Prime Minister Mothetjoa Metsing.

Metsing commended the university for nurturing talent and grooming “students so that they can use their creative skills to add value to society and contribute to (betterment of) the lives of ordinary Basotho”.

“This is indeed an excellent way for the university to showcase the talents of its young Basotho citizens by doing things in their own creative ways,” he said.

The album was produced by staff and students within a two-month period.

The 12-track album is a compilation of traditional Christmas carols with additional mix of contemporary music and traditional music.

Marcia Mangadi, Limkokwing University’s regional director for marketing and recruitment, told the Weekender all proceeds raised from the initiative will go towards charity.

“The album is one of the Heal the World Projects, a foundation under the banner of the university where staff and students are involved in charitable activities and initiatives in society,” she said.

Mangadi said the university is committed to nurturing and recognising talent in all students’ endevours.

“During our graduation ceremony, the choir delivered a splendid performance that impressed the president of the university, Tan Sri Limkokwing, and immediately after he instructed that the choir be given a platform to record a professionally produced album,” Mangadi said.

“As a university, we believe that education should go beyond classrooms perimeters. We believe that talent should be used positively to heal the world through charity platforms and I think the university is excelling in assisting our students to get there.”

Meng Kong Chen, who is the university’s director of corporate affairs, said the album will be launched in Limkokwing’s three African campuses in Lesotho, Botswana and Swaziland.

“The launch of Lesotho Christmas Melodies has a purpose and I quote, ‘we must always bring cheers and good news, we must always make a difference and we must add value wherever and whenever’”.

The album is an attempt to bring cheers to Basotho in the form of these 12 joyous Christmas carols, Chen said.

“With every sale, the proceeds will be donated to charity,” he said.

He urged Basotho to support the initiative.

The album features songs like Silent Night, Jingle Bells, Joy to the world and Oh Christmas Tree.
