Limkokwing University of Creative Technology
The Korean Winter Camp is an immersive English learning programme that enables students to gain a better mastery of the English language. The workshop’s emphasis is on interaction and practical learning to help students develop their communication and problem solving skills.
The students came from various educational backgrounds to become a part of the University’s multicultural learning environment.
“Limkokwing University is a very unique place to study at,” said Paul Joon Soo, who is studying Bachelor of Trade. “We gained more experience to help develop our communication skills.”
He added that the programme enabled him to learn more about Malaysian as well as international culture. The Korean Winter Camp helps students like him to establish networking opportunities with students from other countries.
“I made international friends here and that amount of friends here will be helpful for my future career in the trade industry,” said Paul while adding that it would make him more competitive in the global market.
“During the classes, there are so many people from various cultures,” said Kim Gun Teon Woo who is pursuing Bachelor of Agricultural Corporate Business Management.
“Learning English here has helped me to understand different cultures,” he added. “Malaysia has many different cultures which I could not find back in Korea.”
He also said that if he was to learn English back in his home country in Korea, he would not be able to gain a greater appreciation of multiculturalism.
nBella Known Se Hee, who is aiming to pursue a career in travel agencies as a translator, explained that learning how to develop friendships with people from different cultures helped to expand her people skills.
“The University’s multicultural environment helped to improve my speaking skills as well as my confidence in communicating effectively as a translator,” she said.
She described the Korean Winter Camp methodology as using one-to-one training sessions that enabled her to learn English more efficiently. For example, whenever she had a question, the educators at the University always provided assistance.
Sopia Park Da Sol, who is majoring in Childcare and Welfare, hopes to be able to teach English to kindergarten children.
“The trend in Korea is English being taught in kindergartens,” she said while adding that she hopes to imitate her experiences back in her home country.
Sopia hopes that her experience in Malaysia will enable her to become a more effective teacher while providing a positive influence within her profession as a teacher.
“This experience will also help me in a foreign country and help me to understand different cultures better,” she said. “My job prospects will be better with the improvement of my communication skills.”
Limkokwing University provides English language learning programmes in the University’s multicultural environment. This enables students to develop cultural awareness and provides global networking opportunities to compete in the international market.
