Cybersecurity and Beyond: Limkokwing University and Rashtriya Raksha University Eye Global Collaboration
In an era of globalisation and interconnectedness, two universities from diverse backgrounds are making headway in forging a profound collaboration. Leaders from Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU), India, recently visited Limkokwing University in Malaysia, seeking to establish a strategic alliance under the Limkokwing Global Alliance (LGA) programme. This potential collaboration aims to contribute to the broader academic and professional communities, particularly in national and international security.
Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU), nestled in the heart of Gujarat, India, is also known as Raksha Shakti University (RSU) and focuses on national and international security studies. RRU has become a central university and an Indian Institute of National Importance. Its focus on police and para-military Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) sets it apart, embodying a unique educational mission beyond the conventional sphere. Since its establishment by the Government of Gujarat in 2009, RRU has continually strived for excellence, providing a wide range of programs from undergraduate and postgraduate degrees to professional diploma and certificate programmes. Elevated to the status of a national university in 2020, RRU stands at the forefront of security education, contributing significantly to the nation’s understanding and management of national and international security concerns.
Dr. Kalpesh Vandra, the Pro Vice Chancellor of RRU, shared the purpose behind their visit to Limkokwing University. He elucidated, “Our International Director, Mr. Ravish Shah, is familiar with Limkokwing, and we are excited about potential collaborative initiatives.” Dr. Kalpesh also expressed his awe for Limkokwing University’s innovative and creative environment, which, he admitted, was unparalleled by any other campus he had seen to date.
Mr. Ravish Shah, the Head of the International Cooperation and Outreach Division at RRU, discussed the potential benefits of this collaboration. He praised Limkokwing University and expressed his excitement for sharing expertise and programs between the two institutions. The partnership aims to run programs that revolve around cybersecurity, extending their reach to other Limkokwing campuses across the globe, such as Botswana, Sierra Leone, Cambodia, and the recently inaugurated campus in Uganda. He believes this will be a beneficial platform for spreading security education amongst the young generation, particularly in India.
The alliance between RRU and Limkokwing University will initially focus on areas such as cybersecurity, digital forensics, AI, and data science. However, it won’t be limited to these fields. Mr. Ravish mentioned, “Later on, we have many programs related to financial fraud investigation. We are also working on some social projects like cybersecurity for women, cybersecurity for the citizens of the country, and then some social media addiction programs. We can partner with Limkokwing University to run these projects in the country as well as on other campuses.”
Describing the collaborative initiatives they hope to explore, Mr. Ravish said, “We would like to start with a study tour. Our students will come here. They will see and learn the culture. We can also use this as a combined study tour with the Royal Malaysian Police. Then, we will start with the exchange of expertise and discuss setting up cybersecurity, digital forensics, and physical fitness labs. We are also keen to work on psychological profiling areas.”
As for what success looks like for this collaboration, Mr. Ravish is optimistic, citing his longstanding knowledge of Limkokwing University and its founder. “I am very much positive, hopeful, and optimistic about cooperating strongly with Limkokwing University,” he said. “I am very confident that they will be able to carry out all the activities not only in the Malaysian campus but in other campuses (globally).”
With both parties expressing enthusiasm and positivity towards the prospective collaboration, the global academic landscape awaits a unique amalgamation of cybersecurity and creative innovation. With a deep-rooted commitment to shaping the leaders of tomorrow, Limkokwing University continues to push the boundaries of conventional education, nurturing a culture of innovation and transformation.
